According to the report at the summary conference, after the liberation of Da Nang (March 29, 1975), the army and guerrillas continuously organized forces to clear, remove, and clean up most of the contaminated areas. However, the number of bombs and mines mixed in the ground and some places that had not been removed yet caused many tragic deaths, many people were disabled for life, affecting the lives of many people and many families of the victims.
According to statistics, since 1975, in Da Nang, 52 people have died due to mines while working; from 2021 to now, there have been 2 deaths.
Established on August 25, 2015, the Danang Association for Mine Action Support has continuously expanded its organization, developed its membership network, and established branches at the grassroots level. At the same time, it has conducted investigations and surveys to compile a list of victims and identify areas still at risk of mine contamination.
With the spirit of “no one is forgotten”, the Association proactively mobilized organizations, businesses, and philanthropists to join hands to support the victims. As a result, after 10 years, the total amount of money raised reached 1,525 billion VND. From this resource, the Association donated 30 cows, 2 motorbikes, 2 sugarcane juice carts, 66 savings books, built 1 charity house, and thousands of practical gifts to support affected families...
In the coming time, the association aims to continue to strengthen the organization, improve the staff, and increase the division of labor by area to closely follow the actual situation.
At the same time, organize a new survey, update the list of victims and areas at risk of mines, and step up propaganda work, especially in schools, to raise public awareness of the dangers of mines and the significance of the national program to overcome the consequences of war.
The Association also continues to call for the cooperation of individuals, businesses and organizations at home and abroad to help bomb and mine victims overcome difficulties and stabilize their lives.
