At this point, the 7th Quang Tri Provincial Phu Dong Sports Festival in 2024 has basically completed its preparations with the highest enthusiasm and determination. This is truly a major sports festival for students throughout the province to meet, interact, and showcase their passion and talent in sports; to evaluate physical education and sports activities in schools; and to select outstanding students to compete in the provincial sports teams participating in the 10th National Phu Dong Sports Festival in 2024 with high results.

From the beginning of the 2023-2024 school year, 9 district, town, and city education and training departments and 35 schools have developed plans to organize the Phu Dong Sports Festival at the grassroots level and disseminated the purpose and significance of the Phu Dong Sports Festival to all staff, teachers, and students. The grassroots-level Phu Dong Sports Festival began in October 2023 and took place enthusiastically from January to early March 2024.
Thanks to the careful organization by local leaders and the Department of Education and Training, and the active participation of teachers and students in the competitions and cheering, the Phu Dong Sports Festival at the grassroots level was successfully held according to the plan.
According to Mr. Le Ngoc Thanh, a senior specialist in the Secondary Education and Continuing Education Department of the Department of Education and Training, by March 18, 2024, the grassroots-level Phu Dong Sports Festival had completed its organization, with nearly 20,000 athletes participating in sports such as volleyball, football, sepak takraw, table tennis, badminton, swimming, athletics, chess, karate, aerobic gymnastics, and stick pushing.
The organization of the Phu Dong Sports Festival at the grassroots level was appropriate in scale, dignified, economical, and ensured absolute safety for people and property; the number of participating athletes was higher and of better quality compared to previous Phu Dong Sports Festivals. The athletes competed wholeheartedly in a spirit of solidarity, honesty, sportsmanship, and determination to achieve the highest possible results. The referees officiated the competitions fairly, objectively, and accurately.
The Phu Dong Sports Festival at the grassroots level has had a positive impact on emphasizing and improving the quality of school sports, especially enhancing the quality of physical education teaching by teachers and students participating in physical training, strengthening health to meet the learning tasks and comprehensive education for students; strengthening facilities and equipment serving the teaching and learning of physical education, organizing extracurricular physical education and sports activities and sports competitions in schools.
Following the conclusion of the grassroots-level Phu Dong Sports Festival, the Departments of Education and Training and schools immediately began the selection, training, and preparation of athletes to participate in the 7th Provincial Phu Dong Sports Festival in 2024. Currently, 9 Departments of Education and Training and 35 schools have registered their participation lists for 11 sports with 85 events at the provincial-level Phu Dong Sports Festival, with approximately 4,401 athletes participating.
Specifically, the verification of athlete records and personnel for the 7 sports in phase 1 (March 27-31) was completed on March 20, with approximately 1,735 athletes registered to participate; the verification of athlete records and personnel for the 4 sports that have not yet been organized and many remaining events in other sports in phase 2 (April 8-12) is expected to be completed on April 4, with approximately 2,666 athletes participating.
Currently, the venues for the competitions have basically completed their preparations, ensuring adequate facilities, equipment, and resources for the competition. The referees meet all the required professional and technical standards.
According to Nguyen The Hung, Director of the Provincial Children's House, "The Provincial Children's House has completed preparations for organizing the chess competition for primary and secondary school students (from March 28-31) of the Provincial Phu Dong Sports Festival. Specifically, we have arranged 3 chess competition rooms and 1 referee room; the opening and closing ceremonies for the chess competition have been meticulously prepared, ensuring the best possible environment for the athletes to compete and rest. In addition, the Provincial Children's House has also arranged a ceremonial team to participate in serving at the opening and closing ceremonies of the Provincial Phu Dong Sports Festival."
The 7th Phu Dong Sports Festival of the province will open at 8:00 AM on April 8, 2024, at the Provincial Multi-Purpose Gymnasium and close at 2:00 PM on April 12, 2024, at the Department of Education and Training. The opening ceremony has been meticulously prepared in terms of content and program, ensuring practicality, economy, effectiveness, safety, and security.
Units, schools, and individuals assigned tasks are tasked with strengthening coordination and preparing personnel, vehicles, facilities, equipment, and tools for the groups participating in the parade, mass performance, and artistic performances at the opening ceremony, creating a vibrant and widespread atmosphere. According to Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training Mai Huy Phuong: With the attention of the provincial leadership, the efforts and close coordination of the Department of Education and Training and related agencies and units in carrying out assigned tasks, the preparation for the Provincial Phu Dong Sports Festival has now completed important contents and tasks such as: the venues for the opening and closing ceremonies and the competition venues have been fully equipped with facilities and equipment; the referees officiating the competitions have been trained in their profession and have a thorough understanding of the rules and regulations, demonstrating a high sense of responsibility in performing their duties; the participating units have registered high-quality athletes and have plans to ensure good management and safety regarding accommodation and competition for the athletes.
Other units have developed plans and assigned specific tasks, deploying forces to effectively carry out information and propaganda tasks with rich and diverse content about the provincial-level student sports festival; ensuring security, order, traffic safety, and health services... During the organization of the competitions, the Department of Education and Training focused on identifying and selecting outstanding athletes for the provincial teams; developing training plans to have the best athletes to participate in the 10th National Phu Dong Sports Festival.
