On August 31, Mr. Tran Hau Tuan (36 years old, residing in Thach Quy ward, Ha Tinh city, Ha Tinh province) drove a car carrying his 7-year-old son, carrying a bamboo trap to the irrigation lake serving the irrigation of Dong Mon commune, Ha Tinh city, to catch wild fish.
"This is the second time this year I've been here when I heard the lake was drained and tickets were sold for everyone to join in fishing. I really love this sport, it also helps me remember my childhood memories of going to the pond with my friends to catch fish," Mr. Tuan shared.

In addition to Mr. Tran Hau Tuan, his block also had nearly a dozen other people enthusiastically buying tickets for 80,000 VND/person to participate.

After purchasing tickets, the fishermen are given pink cloth bands by the lake owner to wear on their wrists or tie to their equipment as a marker before entering the lake.

This reservoir has an area of about 4 hectares. In addition to serving agricultural production, the People's Committee of Dong Mon commune leased the water surface to Mr. Tran Cuong (40 years old) to raise freshwater fish for economic development.

"I rented the pond four years ago and bought various types of fish such as carp, catfish, and tilapia to release into it. The fish are developing naturally and have never been exploited. Currently, the authorities are draining the water because the fishing season is over and to prevent flooding. This is the second time I've sold tickets to people. It's not very profitable, it's mainly for fun, so when people offer 50,000 dong, I agree," pond owner Tran Cuong happily shared.

Nearly a hundred people enthusiastically bought tickets and went down to the lake, competing to show off their fishing skills. According to the lake owner's regulations, people are only allowed to use one tool: a bamboo trap.

On the shore, dozens of people came to watch and cheer for the "net fishermen". When they saw fish being disturbed, jumping to the surface of the water or someone catching a fish, they shouted and cheered.

After about ten minutes in the lake, the man caught a carp weighing approximately 2kg.

Mr. Dau Danh (72 years old, residing in Tien Tien village, Dong Mon commune, Ha Tinh city) is one of the oldest participants. Although he is old, he is still strong and can wade in water and hold a fishing net for many hours.

In addition to the fishing net, participants also bring packaging or mesh bags to hold their "spoils of war".

A traditional fishing session with a net lasts about four hours. The most skilled or luckiest fishermen catch 5-10 fish, each weighing 1-5 kg, while others return empty-handed, much to their disappointment. These fish live in their natural environment, so their meat is of good quality. The fish caught by the net fishermen can be sold or used for family meals.
