The Party Delegation of the Vietnam Lawyers Association worked with the Can Tho City Party Committee

On November 30th, Lawyer Tran Cong Phan, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Vice President, and General Secretary of the Vietnam Lawyers Association, and Member of the 15th National Assembly - Head of the working group, along with Lawyer Duong Dinh Khuyen, Member of the Standing Committee of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Lawyers Association, Head of the Legal Advisory and Legal Aid Board; and Lawyer Luong Mai Sao, Member of the Party Committee, Chief of the Party Committee Office, and Head of the Personnel and Organization Board of the Vietnam Lawyers Association, visited the Standing Committee of the Can Tho City Party Committee to discuss coordinating leadership and guidance of the Can Tho City Lawyers Association's work to meet the requirements of the new situation.

Receiving the delegation from the Vietnam Lawyers Association at the Can Tho City Party Committee Office were Comrade Pham Van Hieu, Standing Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee and Chairman of the Can Tho City People's Council, along with representatives from the City People's Committee, the City Party Committee's Organization Department, the City Party Committee's Internal Affairs Department, the City Party Committee's Mass Mobilization Department, and representatives from the City's Department of Justice and Department of Internal Affairs, etc.

In a report assessing the organizational and operational results of the Can Tho City Lawyers Association, a representative from the Can Tho City Party Committee stated that, thanks to the attention of the leaders of the Vietnam Lawyers Association, the Central Association, and especially the direct and regular leadership and guidance of the Can Tho City Party Committee and People's Committee on operational direction, the Association has proactively developed and implemented its work program and plan.

This includes many areas and aspects of activities that have seen new developments, improved quality and effectiveness, contributing to the successful implementation of political , economic, cultural, social, security, and social order tasks in the area.

Thanks to adhering closely to the guiding principles of the Central Association, the City Party Committee, and the People's Committee of Can Tho City, the Can Tho City Lawyers Association has focused on fulfilling its tasks and achieved several basic and specific results: participating in the development of policies and laws, providing feedback on draft laws requested by the National Assembly Delegation; draft legal documents in the area; participating in social monitoring and criticism delegations; coordinating with functional agencies to disseminate and popularize laws, provide legal advice and legal assistance; litigation in courts at all levels; participating in the implementation of some state management activities and public services in the Association's field of activity as prescribed by law; coordinating with the Central Association in some activities implemented in the area; and successfully fulfilling its role as a member of the Vietnam Fatherland Front.

Organizational work was maintained stably with monthly briefing meetings, Standing Committee meetings, and City Executive Committee meetings conducted according to regulations; in 2023, 35 new members were recruited.

In addition, the Can Tho City Lawyers Association has advised the City Party Committee and the City People's Committee to issue guiding documents and develop action plans and programs to implement Directive No. 14-CT/TW of the Politburo and Plan No. 1829-KH/BCSĐCP dated May 4, 2023 of the Government Party Committee on the implementation of Directive No. 14-CT/TW.

The various levels of the Association in this city promptly organized and implemented the documents from the Central Government and the city as prescribed.

The Can Tho City Lawyers Association has also participated in the activities of the City's Council for Coordinating the Dissemination and Education of Law, promoting the role of the Association in contributing ideas to the development of the Council's work programs and plans.

The branch associations directed their subordinate organizations to conduct 86 propaganda and dissemination sessions on various legal documents, with over 1,200 participants…

Currently, the Can Tho City Lawyers Association has one Legal Consulting Center and six branches in Ninh Kieu, Binh Thuy, Cai Rang, O Mon, Thot Not districts and Phong Dien district; 14 consultants participate in carrying out assigned tasks; several organizational models have received general public approval and high praise, and all these activities are free of charge.

According to the Can Tho City Party Committee, in addition to the advantages and achievements, the Can Tho City Lawyers Association faces many difficulties, such as: the effectiveness of some levels of the association in some areas is not high, the working methods have not been innovative, and there are not many forms to gather, mobilize and promote the role of members to actively and effectively participate in implementing some tasks related to monitoring the enforcement of laws, social monitoring and criticism in building and perfecting the political and legal system; the work of participating in resolving complaints and participating in grassroots mediation has not been consistently effective...

Speaking at the meeting, Lawyer Tran Cong Phan, Vice President of the Vietnam Lawyers Association and head of the delegation, highly appreciated the achievements of the Can Tho City Lawyers Association.

In particular, the Central Association, in coordination with Can Tho, successfully organized a photo exhibition week with the theme "Vietnamese Lawyers and the Homeland's Seas and Islands" from April 17th to April 23rd, 2023, attracting thousands of visitors and receiving positive feedback and evaluations on the effectiveness of this activity.

“The City Lawyers Association needs to make greater efforts in fulfilling its role and responsibilities, building and strengthening its organization while adapting to local conditions. At the same time, the City Lawyers Association is required to closely coordinate with departments, agencies, and district/county People's Committees in carrying out its role and responsibilities…”, lawyer Tran Cong Phan emphasized.

Pham Van Hieu, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee, acknowledged the contributions and suggestions from the delegation of the Vietnam Lawyers Association, and stated that the City Party Committee will continue to effectively implement the Party's guidelines and the State's policies.

The Standing Deputy Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee requested that the Can Tho City Lawyers Association always fulfill its role in advising the City Party Committee; at the same time, closely follow the directives of the Central Association, adhere to the political tasks of the City Party Committee, and contribute to the socio-economic development of the locality.
