Investigating the tree felling incident at Freshwater Lake.

On December 11-12, the leaders of Soc Trang ward announced that they had requested the police to investigate the unusual felling of several mahogany trees within the Ho Nuoc Ngot Cultural Area (Hung Vuong Street, Soc Trang ward, Can Tho city).

The scene shows many trees in the Sweetwater Lake Cultural Area being cut down in an unusual manner.

According to local residents, the tree stumps show signs of being felled with a chainsaw; the trunks have been divided into sections, and some have already been transported elsewhere. Notably, after being felled, the stumps are covered with clumps of grass, dry branches, and even mud and soil…

The tree stump was cut down at the Freshwater Lake Cultural Area.

The Freshwater Lake Cultural Area is currently operated and managed by the Freshwater Lake Cultural Area Project Management Board (under the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho City).

The felled tree trunk was divided into several smaller sections.

The entire Freshwater Lake Cultural Area, covering approximately 20 hectares, is enclosed by a wall, has an entrance gate, and is guarded by security personnel.
