Defeating host USA, Mexico successfully defended the 2025 Gold Cup championship

The Mexican team defeated the host United States 2-1 on July 7 in the 2025 Gold Cup final. The victory helped Mexico win the tournament for the 11th time.

But the home team, the US, was the team that took the lead in the 4th minute. From a direct free kick near the midfield, Berhalter made an accurate cross for Chris Richards to head the ball into the net of goalkeeper Luis Malagon (Mexico)... 1-0 for the US.

However, after scoring, the home team retreated to defend too soon, giving Mexico the opportunity to completely control the game. In the 27th minute, Mexico equalized 1-1 thanks to Raul Jimenez with a thunderous shot from inside the penalty area that went straight into the top corner.

In the remaining time, Mexico continued to press the field and they scored another goal to increase the score to 2-1 in the 77th minute, after an accurate header by Edson Alvarez. This was also the decisive goal of the match to help Mexico win the championship.

This is the second consecutive time Mexico has won the championship, and the 13th championship in their history. In addition to the collective title, Mexico also won two more individual titles: Best Player of the tournament (Edson Alvarez) and Best Goalkeeper of the tournament Luis Malagon.
