Lemongrass prices in Tan Phu Dong commune are currently high.

According to reports, the price of lemongrass in Tan Phu Dong commune has increased significantly in recent days, much to the delight of farmers. Currently, lemongrass is being purchased by traders at around 6,000 VND/kg, an increase of more than 1,000 VND/kg compared to last month.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hung's family (Ly Quan 1 hamlet, Tan Phu Dong commune) cultivates over 1 hectare of lemongrass. According to Mr. Hung, in recent days, local people have been selling lemongrass at a price of about 6,000 VND/kg. His family, however, sells it in bulk to traders for 8 million VND per small plot (650 m2).

Mr. Hung added: "The production cost of lemongrass is about 3,000 VND/kg. With the current selling price, farmers are making a profit of about 3,000 VND/kg, so they are very happy. Farmers harvest lemongrass twice a year."

The family of Ms. Tran Thi Thao (Ly Quan 2 hamlet, Tan Phu Dong commune) cultivates 5 acres of lemongrass. According to Ms. Thao, her family has just harvested 2 acres of lemongrass, selling it at 6,200 VND/kg. The remaining 3 acres will be harvested in the coming days. "People are very happy with the price of lemongrass at this level. Each acre earns several million dong," Ms. Thao said.

Lemongrass is a key crop in Tan Phu Dong commune. Thanks to its suitability to the local natural conditions and its resistance to drought and salinity, the cultivated area has expanded significantly in recent years. This crop has helped many families escape poverty and stabilize their lives.

According to Bui Thai Son, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Council of Tan Phu Dong commune, the entire commune has approximately 4,020 hectares of lemongrass. Currently, the locality is implementing solutions to promote mechanization in lemongrass cultivation to improve production efficiency.

The commune has collaborated with the Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry to register for a pilot project applying mechanization in lemongrass production. In addition, the locality is also implementing solutions to use organic fertilizers in lemongrass cultivation and gradually expanding the area certified under VietGAP…
