According to the People's Committee of Long Tien commune, the commune currently has about 3,500 hectares of durian orchards with approximately 7,210 households participating in production. The average scale ranges from 0.3 to 1 hectare per household. Many experienced durian growers with good cultivation techniques apply off-season fruiting methods, bringing high economic efficiency.

The entire commune has 24 durian growing areas that have been granted registration numbers. The total area of durian with registration numbers is over 1,921 hectares. In addition, there are 15 fresh durian packaging facilities in the area that have been approved by China with registration numbers, and 15 durian processing facilities that have been granted Food Safety Certificates.
Monitoring has shown that the growing areas and packaging facilities generally comply with requirements such as: having production processes, pest management procedures, monitoring of targets of concern to China; and maintaining cultivation logs. However, some households in the growing areas are still not maintaining these requirements well.

According to statistics, the entire commune has 4 agricultural cooperatives that have production and product consumption linkages with businesses. At the same time, 2 businesses have initially formed a supply chain from production to processing and packaging…

The conference reported on the current state of durian production, the maintenance of MSVT (Medium-Standardized Agricultural Product) and product consumption in Long Tien commune. It also included a thematic presentation on "Cadmium in durian-growing soil: current situation, risks and solutions"; the results of a cadmium treatment and soil improvement model; and the orientation of solutions for linking durian production and export in the future.
Also at the conference, delegates shared and offered suggestions on future directions and solutions to ensure production conditions and consumption linkages comply with export product standards…
Speaking at the conference, Tran Thanh Tam, Head of the Crop Production and Plant Protection Sub-Department of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Dong Thap province, said that the province currently has nearly 35,500 hectares of durian orchards; of which, nearly 19,000 hectares are bearing fruit. To date, the entire province has 350 registered packaging facilities (approximately 15,000 durians) exporting to China and 111 registered packaging facilities.
Of these, 90 MSVT (Material Safety and Quality Control) codes are authorized for export by businesses; 42 packaging facility codes are authorized for export. Of the 111 packaging facility codes to date, several have been suspended or revoked. Therefore, the risk of losing market share is currently very high, as durian exports must go through authorized packaging facilities.
Therefore, maintaining the durian industry requires farmers to adhere to cultivation practices and use solutions to mitigate cadmium contamination.
The durian industry brings economic benefits to farmers, so control, no matter how difficult, must be implemented; we must gradually improve the soil and enhance its health…
