ANTD.VN - The prices of peach blossoms and kumquats for Tet this year are significantly higher than last year, but their appearance is inferior.
Peach blossoms for Tet are not abundant. |
On Duong Dinh Nghe and Nguyen Chanh streets, peach blossoms, kumquats, and ornamental flowers are displayed for sale from after the 15th day of the 12th lunar month. Compared to previous years, the time of sale is also significantly later.
Ms. Hoa (who sells peach blossoms at the beginning of Nguyen Chanh street) said: "Even though we open late, there are still very few customers. Some days there are only about a dozen customers looking, and even fewer buying."
Ms. Hoa's stall on Nguyen Chanh Street only has about 20 peach blossom trees, all in traditional styles. Each tree costs from 4 million VND. The seller said that the price of peach blossoms has increased significantly this year due to a scarcer supply. Many peach-growing regions were severely affected by Typhoon Yagi in early September 2024.
According to Mr. Truong (a peach blossom vendor on Ton That Thuyet Street), this year he imported wild peach blossoms from Lang Son . “The blossoms aren't as ripe as those from Northwest Vietnam, but the transportation costs from Northwest Vietnam are too high, and the market seems sluggish, so I chose moderately priced ones. Since the 15th day of the 12th lunar month, there haven't been many customers. Only since the day of the Kitchen God and Stove God have there been a few buyers,” Mr. Truong said.

Similar to cultivated peach blossoms, wild peach blossoms have also increased in price this year. Branches with trunks about 10cm in diameter and nearly 3m tall are priced at around 3 million VND, about 500,000 VND higher per branch compared to last year.
Many vendors say that although the peach blossom trees/branches this year may not look their best, the flowers will bloom beautifully for Tet (Lunar New Year) due to the warm weather.
Similarly, kumquat trees have also increased in price this year. Potted kumquat trees, approximately 2 meters tall and 80 cm in diameter, are selling for around 2 million VND. Smaller potted kumquat trees, less than 50 cm tall, suitable for tabletops, are priced at around 200,000 VND.
On To Huu Street, smaller kumquat trees are more popular than larger ones. Smaller kumquat trees are priced from 200,000 to 250,000 VND per pot.
Observations show that this year's kumquat trees and fruits are smaller, with fewer new designs, and customers don't have as many choices as in previous years.
On streets like Giang Vo and Duong Dinh Nghe, there aren't many potted chrysanthemums and ornamental flowers. The chrysanthemum bunches aren't attractive, with few buds and flowers. Similarly, orchid nurseries are sparsely populated and business isn't booming.
