Reinforcing a report from September 2024, leaker Digital Chat Station recently stated on Weibo that the 2026 iPhone models may see a significant price increase.
"Next year, Apple will launch using TSMC's 2nm process. Costs are expected to increase significantly, and the price of new devices may rise again," Digital Chat Station wrote.
Previously, in a September 2024 report, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo revealed that the high cost of the iPhone 18 was partly due to low production rates. Therefore, this expert initially predicted that Apple would limit the 2nm process processor to the iPhone 18 Pro, or even only feature it on the iPhone 18 Pro Max.
However, by March 2025, Kuo revised his prediction, adding that production rates had improved significantly. The analyst also revealed that TSMC had reached a production rate of 60-70% in January of this year, and by March had "far exceeded that number," believing that Apple might use 2nm processors across the entire iPhone 18 lineup.
Previously, in 2022, TSMC stated that it planned to mass-produce 2nm chips by 2025. Shortly after the announcement, it was reported that Apple's iPhone 17 Pro would be the first device to feature the new processor.
Apple has contracted TSMC for the entire 2nm manufacturing process during its initial phase. In addition to iPhones, the 2nm process is also expected to be used for Apple Silicon in future Mac computers.
Furthermore, some recent rumors suggest that TSMC is planning to conduct more in-depth research into advanced 1.4 nm chips. These are expected to be manufactured and commercially available as early as 2027.
