Taking advantage of the rough seas, officers and soldiers visited each house and met with each boat owner to explain the regulations and clearly indicate the permitted fishing areas. These close conversations helped fishermen understand the legal requirements when operating at sea. Mr. Cao Van Chuc, a fisherman in Long Phung commune, affirmed that compliance with the latitude and the State's regulations is the responsibility of every person in the profession.
In addition to propaganda, the border guards also require ship owners and crew members to sign a commitment not to violate IUU. This is considered a serious promise of each fisherman to the sea and the community. Mr. Duong Ngoc Thang said that he always fully complies with the contents of the commitment when going to sea.
At the same time, officers and soldiers regularly go down to the boat to give specific instructions on fishing gear and registered occupations, and remind fishermen to absolutely not use destructive fishing methods such as electric shock or explosives. Mr. Bui Minh Tinh said that local fishermen always strictly follow these regulations.
Duc Minh Border Guard Station manages more than 350 vehicles, mainly small boats and ships. Propaganda work is deployed flexibly, closely following the characteristics of coastal fishing. Major Le Van Thao, Deputy Political Commissar , said that the unit has coordinated with Border Guard Squadron 2 to handle many cases of violations of coastal dredging.
100% of the vehicles in the area have been registered, inspected, licensed and fully marked. Fishermen strictly follow the procedures for going to sea, keep a logbook and carry legal documents when entering and leaving the port. Major Le Cong Tuyen, Deputy Head of the Station, said that in the coming time, the unit will continue to coordinate with the authorities to resolutely handle cases with signs of violations, contributing to the whole country to remove the IUU "yellow card".
Thanks to the close-to-the-people, synchronous and drastic approach, fishermen's awareness of legal exploitation has changed significantly. Each means of transport that complies with regulations becomes an important link in the effort to protect aquatic resources and develop sustainable fisheries.
