On the morning of September 11, the organizing committee of the 2024 Ho Chi Minh City Ornamental Plants Exhibition and Competition awarded the special prize to the work "Favored" by contestant Phan Hong Hai - a Vietnamese ornamental plant artist with the prize being a Wave Alpha 110 motorbike.

Artist Phan Hong Hai is currently the principal of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry.

Immediately after receiving the award, Mr. Hai said: "I decided to give this award to students in difficult circumstances at Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry. The school delegation will select and award a motorbike to the most difficult student, helping that student have a means of transportation."

Mr. Hai said he is very passionate about ornamental plants and has more than 10 years of experience growing ornamental plants, especially bonsai. He was awarded the title of ornamental plant artist by the Vietnam Ornamental Plants Association in May 2022.

Over the years, he has won many awards in ornamental plant competitions in the southern provinces and cities. In 2024 alone, Mr. Hai has won a series of ornamental plant awards: 1 gold prize - Tao Dan Spring Flower Festival; 1 gold prize - Sa Dec Ornamental Flower Festival 2024; 1 gold prize Go Vap Ornamental Plant Association; 1 gold prize Cho Lach Ornamental Plant Association - Ben Tre ; and now 1 special prize District 11 Ornamental Plant Association, Ho Chi Minh City.

"Every time I receive an ornamental plant award, I use it for charity, giving it to the poor and disadvantaged students," Mr. Hai shared.

The principal pledged: "No new students will be unable to study because of poverty."

Immediately after the scholarship program "Tiep suc den truong" was announced on the morning of August 8, Mr. Phan Hong Hai also proactively contacted Tuoi Tre newspaper to support 20 scholarships with a total amount of 300 million VND for the school's new students.

In previous years, the Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry has supported scholarships through Tuoi Tre newspaper to help university-admitted candidates with difficult circumstances. Last year, the school sponsored 10 scholarships called Tiep suc den truong for new students.

"In the upcoming 2024-2025 school year, the school plans to continue to spend about 70 billion VND to award scholarships to students. Students who have received the "Tiep suc den truong" scholarship will still be considered for additional scholarships by the school. I absolutely guarantee that no candidate will pass the entrance exam but cannot study because of poverty," Mr. Hai affirmed.
