Ha Nam Island is located on the historic Bach Dang River, which has existed for a long time. The people here live on the river all year round. The unique men's pole swimming event takes place during the annual Xuong Dong festival on this island, with the wish to pray for favorable weather and good crops. The men's pole swimming competition between teams, along with showing patriotism, also recreates the spirit of our ancestors fighting foreign invaders on the historic Bach Dang River more than 700 years ago.

The Going to the Field Festival originates from the Ha Dien and Thuong Dien ceremonies of the residents of the Ha Nam river island region, which take place in the beginning of the 6th lunar month every year, before the Summer rice planting season. The Going to the Fields Festival is a unique traditional festival, originating from the "Ha Dien" and "Thuong Dien" ceremonies of the residents of Ha Nam region. This festival has existed for a long time in the daily life of the people of Ha Nam island area, held annually before people start planting crops. Through this, people express their gratitude to the agricultural gods and the village's tutelary gods, praying for the gods to bless the crops.
