English club Dorking Wanderers has announced the signing of a 54-year-old fan to fill the goalkeeper position. This comes after the club's first-choice goalkeeper suffered a serious injury, leaving them without a replacement for this weekend's match.
Terry Dunn, a loyal Dorking Wanderers fan and former amateur goalkeeper, retired from the game 28 years ago.
Following the departure of first-choice goalkeeper Harrison Foulkes for four weeks, Dunn was included in the squad as the club was unable to find a replacement in time for today's clash with AFC Totton (September 6) in the National League South (English sixth tier).
"Goalkeeper is like riding a bicycle. You never forget it. I still play football regularly."
"As a Wanderers fan, nobody would work harder than me to keep a clean sheet for the team," Dunn shared.
First-team chairman and coach Marc White commented on this special decision: "In an age where passion is increasingly rare, what Terry lacks in agility, he will make up for with all his heart."
Dorking Wanderers Football Club is an incredible story in English football. Founded in 1999 by a group of friends, under the leadership of chairman and manager Marc White, the club has had a remarkable journey of development, achieving 12 promotions in just 23 seasons.
This impressive journey has taken them from the lowest leagues to the National League (fifth tier) in 2022. This league is just one level above the English professional league system.
Currently, they are playing in the National League South (the sixth tier of English football), after suffering their first-ever relegation at the end of the 2023-2025 season. Their home ground is Meadowbank Stadium, which has a capacity of 3,000 people.
