At ASIAD 19 (Hangzhou, China), the Vietnamese women's football team is in the same group with Japan, Nepal and Bangladesh.

Among these opponents, the Japanese team is considered the strongest and most likely to win the top spot in the group. Therefore, the goal of coach Mai Duc Chung and his team is to finish second and aim for a place in the next round through one of the three best second-placed teams.

The women’s football competition featured 16 teams, divided into five groups. There were three groups of three teams and two groups of four teams. The five group winners and three best runners-up advanced. However, before the tournament began, the Cambodian women’s team withdrew, leaving Group C with only two teams.
