Warm sharing

Arms swaying to the music, emotions surging, tears falling… are special feelings that come to anyone who comes to Spring of Love at the National Children's Hospital.

“Mother’s Dream” became the most emotional performance when the performers were the staff of the Oncology Department and the children being treated there.

Lo Thi Nhon ( Son La ), still inserting a needle into her hand, hesitantly read the thank you and New Year wishes to open the performance. The 15-year-old girl, with a beautiful face like an angel, was unfortunately diagnosed with leukemia only about a month ago. Ms. Luong Thi La, Nhon's mother, said that Nhon is in the first rounds of chemotherapy and she is very optimistic.

The children, despite having just undergone chemotherapy and being tired, still performed enthusiastically.

Having only a little time last night to practice with the children, Nhon confided that this was a very special performance for him. “Being able to sing with the children, I felt happier, more excited and saw the children’s great determination to overcome their illness. Therefore, I also tried very hard to have the best spirit for treatment,” Nhon confided.

Watching her child perform on stage, Ms. Nguyen Thi Em secretly wiped away her tears. Her daughter, Nong Thi Hong Ngoc (7 years old), was diagnosed with leukemia in November 2024 after a continuous fever. Her hair fell out almost completely after the second round of chemotherapy, but Ngoc is still very optimistic. “This Tet, she will be able to go home, but her journey in the hospital is still very long. She just hopes to have performances with her friends so that her childhood will have many beautiful memories,” Ms. Em said.

Impressive among the young singers performing at the program, little Phung Gia Huy (8 years old, Ba Vi, Hanoi ) has to wear dark glasses because he has leukemia.

Ms. Do Thi Hien, the baby’s mother, shared that because he is undergoing high-dose chemotherapy, he has to wear glasses. Huy was diagnosed with leukemia 2 years ago when he showed symptoms of fever, leg pain, uncontrollable bleeding, and enlarged armpits.

Parents and many young audiences were moved to tears when watching the children perform.

Huy has just finished a month of radiotherapy at the 108 Military Central Hospital and is currently undergoing his second round of chemotherapy at the National Children's Hospital. Sharing about the family's situation, Ms. Hien said that she and her husband work as workers in Quoc Oai district. To make it easier to go to work, they rent a room and take their two children with them. Since the day their child got sick, Ms. Hien quit her job to take her child to the hospital. The cost of medicine, food, accommodation, and transportation is expensive, and her husband's salary alone is not enough to cover the expenses.

Due to high-dose chemotherapy, Huy's health is still weak, and it is expected that the mother and son will celebrate Tet in the hospital. "He is very tired from high-dose chemotherapy, but today he was able to attend the Tet program and receive many gifts, he is very happy and excited. Hopefully this will be a source of spiritual encouragement for him to continue his treatment journey," the young mother shared.

Mr. Mua Thong Lau (Muong Ang, Dien Bien ) carries his baby on his back.

Carrying his one-year-old son on his back, Mr. Mua Thong Lau (Muong Ang, Dien Bien) experienced celebrating Tet away from home for the first time. His son had been hospitalized for four consecutive months due to anal fistula since birth. After surgery, his son had to wear a colostomy. The old father was quite clumsy when he first let his son participate in the Spring of Love program at the National Children's Hospital. He asked for directions to get Tet gifts with a thoughtful heart. "The doctor said this year my son will have to stay in the hospital to celebrate Tet," Mr. Lau said.

Also a man in the family taking care of his children and grandchildren, for the past three years, Mr. Lo Van The (Than Uyen, Lai Chau) has left his house and fields to take care of his cerebral palsy grandchild instead of his parents. His father left when his grandchild was only 2 years old, and his mother had to work far away from home to earn a living. For the past three years, the two of them have rented a house and come to the hospital every day to do rehabilitation exercises.

Knowing that his grandchild has cerebral palsy and does not understand anything when watching music, there is no charity activity of the hospital that he does not let his grandchild go to. “That is also a way to comfort me when Tet is near, ma’am. The journey of my grandchild in the hospital is still very long,” Mr. The said.

Philanthropists have joined hands to create a Spring of Love for children.

Taking care of a warm Tet for 2,000 sick children

Every Spring, the space at the Children's Hospital becomes warmer than ever when gifts of love from volunteers are given away, and the sick children are excited to go to the Tet market for free.

With a scale of 43 fair booths, thousands of Tet gifts in 23 categories: Tet candies, toys, teddy bears, children's socks, children's hats, milk... and a children's play area including sand painting, stringing beads, coloring, fishing, water-dug tanks, electric cars... were set up by the Social Work Department in conjunction with benefactors from early morning to serve more than 2,000 families of children with children hospitalized during the Lunar New Year this year.

Thousands of gifts were given to sick children.

Mr. Trinh Ngoc Hai, Deputy Director of the National Children's Hospital, said that in addition to treating children, psychological care for hospitalized children is very important, providing physical and mental strength, contributing to better treatment of hospitalized children.

Therefore, every year, the National Children's Hospital strives to mobilize many resources from society, joining hands to create a warm Tet for children being hospitalized and treated at the hospital.

The game booth attracts many children.

“Currently, the hospital has 2,000 inpatients and 4,000-5,000 outpatients. The hospital tries to give the children the opportunity to go home for Tet, except in severe cases that require hospitalization. We will assign medical staff, doctors, and logistics staff as usual for normal treatment days. All conditions regarding materials, expertise, techniques, medicine, etc. are guaranteed to be sufficient for Tet,” said Mr. Hai.
