On December 4, the LED screen installation unit serving the events of the 33rd SEA Games in Chonburi announced on social media that it would stop construction because the deposit had not been paid.
"The deposit was supposed to be paid on Monday (December 1), but the Organizing Committee delayed it until Thursday (December 4). I had to accept and give them a deadline of 4 p.m. They promised many times but broke their promises many times. If I still don't receive the money, I will have to stop working. They will have to find another partner and I will also go to work on something else," the contractor wrote, emphasizing that "SEA Games is a big event, but the cooperation process, including payment, is unclear. The money problem not only affects us but also the staff and suppliers."
The LED screen contractor also noted that they only undertake construction in the Chonburi area, not related to Rajamangala Stadium or other places to avoid misunderstandings. Chonburi province, about 100km from Bangkok, is the venue for 15 sports , including women's football, golf, wrestling, rowing and triathlon.
This is not the first time the SEA Games 33 Organizing Committee has been accused of late payments and unprofessional work. A few days ago, Rueangrit Santisuk, the director of photography and lighting hired to design the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, lamented that he and his colleagues had worked hard for 7 months with a limited budget, only to be suddenly told to stop work in October without receiving any payment.
In addition, many Thai athletes also said that they have not received their allowances for the 33rd SEA Games for more than three months. Among the athletes, including Mongkutphet Phetpraofa, the Muay Thai star is one of the representatives of the 33rd SEA Games.
