Nearly 500 students and parents participated in the English and IELTS Day 2025 organized by the British Council recently in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
The event opened up a space for attendees to immerse themselves in the world of English and explore new directions in learning, studying abroad and career development. In addition to the academic experience, the activities also created a close atmosphere, encouraging attendees to connect and learn from experts and the IELTS learning community.
Specifically, the event took place at the English Teaching Center, No. 1152 Lang Road (Lang Ward, Hanoi) and 285 Cach Mang Thang Tam (Hoa Hung Ward, Ho Chi Minh City).
Master Pham Thanh Ha, Deputy Head of the Training Management Department, Foreign Trade University (FTU), said: in the 2025 enrollment season, many domestic universities use IELTS certificates in their admission methods.
This includes converting IELTS results into English scores for admission, or combining IELTS scores with high school academic results, combining IELTS scores with high school graduation exam results, or combining IELTS scores with international competency assessment certificates such as SAT, ACT, A-Level. Some schools also give priority admission points to candidates with IELTS certificates that meet international standards.
From the perspective of a study abroad consultancy, Mr. Tung Phan, Director of CEI Toronto and Phan Immigration, a unit specializing in supporting Vietnamese students to study abroad and settle in Canada, commented: "An IELTS certificate is not only a ticket to a foreign university but also a tool to help students confidently integrate into an international environment."
Sharing this perspective, Mr. Phan Tuan Linh, Business Development Director of ISC Education Study Abroad Consulting Center, said that after 5 years since the pandemic, Vietnamese education has had many positive changes, but choosing between studying abroad and studying domestically is still an important decision.
Experts recommend that students should clearly define their career goals, instead of just considering costs, and said that the trend of studying abroad is expanding as countries such as the UK, Australia, and Canada increase opportunities for studying and working after graduation. In particular, the UK continues to be a popular destination thanks to its top-quality education and many high scholarship opportunities.

On this occasion, young people also experienced the "Coaching 1-1" area, where they could chat directly with former international students who had lived, studied and worked in many countries around the world as well as IELTS candidates with high scores to receive personalized advice on study strategies and career orientation.
On this occasion, Ms. Melanie Harbinson, IELTS teacher, British Council Teaching Center in Hanoi, expressed her impression of the learning spirit and determination of Vietnamese students. At the same time, she advised Vietnamese students in the IELTS Speaking test, in which they should pay attention to demonstrating the ability to communicate clearly and concisely.

With more than 100 IELTS Speaking mock tests with foreign teachers from the British Council at the festival, learners had the opportunity to experience a simulated test according to international standards, and receive direct feedback on their strengths and areas for improvement in their English speaking skills.
This activity received special attention from students and was considered one of the most useful experiences at the event, helping candidates get familiar with the real exam process, reduce psychological pressure and strengthen confidence before the official exam.
At the same time, the IELTS computer test area is always crowded with participants. Students are familiarized with the British Council's standard Listening and Reading computer test interface, helping to reduce pressure before the real exam.
