The Ministry of Construction has just adjusted the completion time of the project to build two new railway and road bridges across the Duong River to 2026, one year later than the original plan. The main reason was determined to be that the site clearance work has not met the schedule.
The total investment of the project is more than 1,840 billion VND, using state budget capital.
Land clearance problems are the main cause.
The project started in July 2023. To date, the construction items under the river such as the main bridge piers have been basically completed because they are not affected by land acquisition. However, the above-ground items such as the approach road and the bridgehead road are still stalled.
According to the plan, the People's Committee of Viet Hung Ward and the People's Committee of Phu Dong Commune must hand over the clean site to the contractor from the fourth quarter of 2024. However, this work has not yet been completed, making it impossible for the contractor to carry out the construction synchronously.

Faced with this situation, the Ministry of Construction has assigned the Railway Project Management Board to closely coordinate with departments, branches and Hanoi authorities to urgently remove obstacles, relocate technical infrastructure and promptly hand over the site to the construction unit.
Technical information of the new Duong bridge project
The Duong River waterway upgrade project includes the construction of two separate bridges for road and rail, replacing the old Duong bridge.
New Duong railway bridge
The new railway bridge is about 1km long, built about 16.5m upstream from the old bridge. The bridge is designed for single-gauge railways (1,000mm and 1,435mm), meeting the design speed of 80km/h.

New Duong Road Bridge
The new road bridge is about 700 m long, located 100 m downstream from the old bridge. The starting point of the bridge is at the intersection on Ngo Gia Tu Street (Long Bien District) and the end point is at the intersection between Ha Huy Tap and Phan Dang Luu Streets (Gia Lam District).
The bridge has a prestressed reinforced concrete structure combined with a cable-stayed system. In the phased phase, a unit will be built with an approach bridge width of 16 m and a main bridge width of 18.5 m.
