Hidden deep inside the mountain is an underground river about 3km long with an impressive stalactite system, making Hanoi visitors continuously exclaim with delight.
“I have conquered many caves in Vietnam. However, from Hanoi, traveling more than 2 hours to Lang Son , to Khuon Bong cave, I was truly overwhelmed by the majestic scenery, with the unique beauty of the cave system here.
In addition to adventurous activities such as ziplining in caves, crawling through cracks, swimming in underground rivers and diving to the other side of the cave, I also feel the beauty of nature through each experience, from different perspectives.
This also helps me discover myself, improve my survival skills. At the same time, it helps me relieve my spirit, regenerate my energy, and move towards a positive and healthy life," said Ms. Minh Hieu (Hanoi) - a member of the Khuon Bong cave expedition team on December 15.
Hanoi tourists come to Lang Son to conquer strange and beautiful caves
Khuon Bong Cave (located in Vu Le commune, Bac Son district, Lang Son province) is located on Lang Son Geopark (GWP) tourist route No. 02.
Lang Son Geopark stretches across districts and cities such as Bac Son, Chi Lang, Huu Lung, Lang Son City..., with a total area of nearly 4,900km2. In September 2024, Lang Son Geopark was recognized as a UNESCO Global Geopark.
Ms. Minh Hieu said that her group's expedition to Khuon Bong cave lasted only one day, was a survey, entered the cave at 9:00 a.m. and ended at 5:30 p.m.
For more than 8 hours inside the cave, the group moved through many terrains: Trekking to admire the magnificent stalactite system; immersing themselves in crystal clear calcium lakes; swimming in underground rivers; diving through secret cracks underground to reach Phuong Hoang Cave (Thai Nguyen).
Before this expedition, the group members also had a day to experience a 120m adventurous zipline, conquering the "Yen Son Heaven Gate" (also known as Hong Cave, located in Yen Son Commune, Huu Lung District, Lang Son Province).
To reach the mouth of Khuon Bong cave, the expedition had to trek through trails, deep into the forest.
The cave has a very special location. The entrance is a small crack in a limestone mountain with a diameter of about 60cm, just enough for one person to crawl through, located in Khuon Bong village, Vu Le commune, Bac Son district, Lang Son. The exit is Suoi Mo Ga cave in Phu Thuong commune, Vo Nhai district, Thai Nguyen province.
To enter the cave, visitors need to use ropes and safety belts. Passing through the cave entrance is a hole about 3m deep. Going 20m further in is a deep wall, visitors must use ropes to swing down 60m to reach the cave floor where they can walk.
Ms. Hieu was overwhelmed by the majestic scenery like an "underground palace" in Khuon Bong cave.
After about 2 hours of traveling, the members stopped for lunch in the cave and then continued trekking and swimming about 3km through the cave.
“The cave is like a palace with many unique terrains. We had to swing, swim, even crawl on the ground or paddle SUP to move through different special areas,” Ms. Hieu said.
Mr. Pham Van Manh - director of a professional adventure travel company said that this unit is completing the application for a license to exploit the Khuon Bong cave adventure tour.
“Khuon Bong is a very beautiful cave with natural fossil and stalactite structures, many lakes and small waterfalls flowing vertically and in the form of steps inside the cave, converging a variety of elements serving adventure tourism and cave exploration.
At the end of the cave, the stalactite system is diverse and intact, so there is a lot of potential for exploiting and developing adventure tourism," said Mr. Manh.
Expedition team surveyed Khuon Bong cave in mid-December
Talking to VietnamNet reporter, Ms. Pham Thi Huong - Deputy Head of Lang Son Geopark Management Department said that Khuon Bong cave stretches across Lang Son and Thai Nguyen, so exploitation will require coordination from the two provinces.
“Currently, the cave entrance to Mo Ga stream has a very low ceiling, almost touching the water surface, so it is quite difficult to move through. We need a team of experts and a lot of experience to guide us through to ensure safety,” Ms. Huong added.
Lang Son Geopark is expected to be exploited for tourism along 4 routes with 38 destinations. The journey to explore the routes mainly goes through National Highways 1A, 1B, 4B and 279. Each route has from 7 to 11 attractions with diverse experiences.
