Tourists flock to An Giang culinary stall

An Giang cuisine and specialties have created a special attraction for visitors at the 80-year national achievements exhibition. The booths with typical flavors of the country, such as: fish noodles, broken rice..., are something that visitors cannot ignore when visiting. Many specialties with the strong imprint of the Western region as gifts are also chosen by many visitors, contributing to promoting the image of An Giang to friends across the country.

Sell ​​several hundred meals per day

Within the framework of the Socio -Economic Achievements Exhibition on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025) taking place at the National Exhibition Center, Dong Anh (Hanoi), An Giang's culinary booth became a bustling stop.

When the exhibition center opened, the booth area gradually became crowded with customers. Many people ordered food, the bustling conversation mixed with the aroma of steaming pots of noodle soup, creating a typical An Giang atmosphere in the heart of Hanoi capital.

The kitchen is always bustling. The sound of knives and cutting boards clattering, the sound of food being prepared, bowls lined up waiting to be filled with hot broth. The image of the chefs in uniform, sweating but always smiling, makes diners feel the dedication from preparation to service.

Mr. Huynh Hong Cum, Head Chef of Huynh Gia Wedding Restaurant (An Giang) said that the booth will serve continuously from August 28 to September 5 with a rich menu, including: Kien Giang fish vermicelli, Chau Doc fish vermicelli, Long Xuyen broken rice, basa fish mushroom rice, Ha Tien vermicelli...

“We serve a different specialty dish every day. All ingredients must be ordered from Hanoi because of the long distance, and cannot be transported from An Giang province here. We have to go to the market early in the morning, prepare and process to open at 9am,” Mr. Cum shared.

During the first day and a half, the stall sold about 600 bowls of fish noodles for visitors to enjoy. Mr. Trinh Hoang Den, the chef who directly participated in preparing the dish, could not hide his excitement: “This is a joy and also an unforgettable memory, because there is only one big occasion like this every 80 years. Every day we prepare about a few hundred meals, from noodles to rice, all of which are enthusiastically received by visitors. Seeing the hot bowls of noodles delivered to the customers, seeing them nod and praise the deliciousness, all the hard work disappears.”

Ms. Tran Thi Hong, a tourist from Hoan Kiem Ward (Hanoi City) enjoyed Kien Giang fish noodle soup and said: “The broth is very clear, naturally sweet, the fish is firm and not fishy. I found it strange and much more delicious than other fish noodle soups I have tried. This stall is both cozy and has a very typical Western flavor.”

Spread the flavor of the West

Not only food, An Giang's booth is also a place to promote typical products with strong regional identity. The booth is always crowded with visitors, after enjoying the taste on the spot, they also buy special gifts from the countryside to bring home. The shelves are neatly arranged, the yellow color of palm sugar, the dark brown color of caramel, and the bottles of palm wine shimmering under the lights make the booth space cozy and attractive.

Mr. Tran Gia Tuan, representative of Tran Gia Regional Specialty Development One Member Co., Ltd. (Tinh Bien Ward, An Giang) shared: “We bring about 15 products, including 6-7 types of sugar, along with caramel, molasses, palm wine, powdered sugar, palm juice... In just over 1 day, more than 300 products have been consumed. This is a positive signal showing the appeal of hometown specialties to consumers”. While speaking, Mr. Tuan quickly arranged new items on the shelves, because the baskets of goods chosen by tourists quickly emptied after only a few hours of opening.

Many visitors, after enjoying the food at the stall, immediately returned to buy more products to bring home as gifts. Mr. Nguyen Tien Toi, residing in Giang Vo ward (Hanoi city) shared: “I especially like Chau Doc fish noodle soup. The broth is rich, the taste is very different from the familiar dishes in Hanoi, I still remember it after eating. I also bought some palm sugar to cook sweet soup, it will definitely have a different flavor”.

Meanwhile, Ms. Hoang Thi Bich Lan, living in Gia Tuong commune (Ninh Binh) excitedly held the bag of goods she had just bought: "I chose palm sugar and palm wine as gifts for my family. This is the first time I have tried them, the flavor is very special."

The greetings, the cheerful exchanges, the bright smiles when visitors held new products in their hands made An Giang booth a place that visitors enjoyed visiting at the exhibition. With elaborate preparations and a high sense of responsibility, An Giang's culinary and specialty booth not only contributed to enriching the cultural picture at the event, but also became a bridge to bring the image of the land and people of the Southwest region closer to friends across the country.
