Recently, Can Tho has continuously signed tourism cooperation agreements with many localities: Hue, Dong Nai, Hai Phong, Dong Thap, Vinh Long... opening up many new opportunities in local tourism development.
Mr. Tran Van Ngoc, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism (DOCST) of Hai Phong City, said: “In recent years, Hai Phong has always actively promoted cooperation with domestic and international localities to introduce and promote local tourism. Hai Phong has advantages in sea and island tourism, natural and cultural heritage systems, while Can Tho has strengths in river tourism, fruit gardens, and floating markets. Therefore, on the basis of coordination and cooperation between Hai Phong and Can Tho, many new opportunities will open up, contributing to attracting tourists between regions”. Mr. Nguyen Van Bay, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho City, said: “Linking inter-regional tourism development between Hai Phong City - Can Tho City and the Mekong Delta provinces is an opportunity for localities to strengthen connections, expand cooperation, and expand markets”.
In fact, the connection between Hai Phong and Can Tho is more favorable than other localities thanks to the connection from the Hai Phong - Can Tho flight route. Since its operation in 2019, the flight route has remained stable with a frequency of 3-4 flights/week, with more than 1,255 flights. The total number of passengers transported reached more than 180,000, accounting for more than 10% of the market share of transportation through Can Tho International Airport. The connection of transport infrastructure not only promotes tourism development but also opens up many trade opportunities for localities.
In addition to Hai Phong, Can Tho also has links with many other localities, recently with Dong Nai. Mr. Vu Xuan Truong, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Dong Nai province, said: "Dong Nai has tourism cooperation links with Can Tho, Vinh Long and Dong Thap. This activity aims to concretize the policy of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the People's Committees of provinces and cities on strengthening economic development cooperation links between localities. The linkage activities not only promote the tourism strengths of the four provinces and cities but also create opportunities for tourism and travel businesses between the parties to meet, connect and build inter-regional routes, creating many new, competitive, effective and market-appropriate products."
Suggestions for effective linking
To effectively cooperate in tourism, tourism businesses believe that activities should go into depth. From the actual activities of travel agencies, Mr. Tran Thanh Nghi, Director of Ben Thanh Tourist Can Tho branch, said: "There should be joint tourism promotion and advertising programs between the signed localities, and at the same time, there should be famtrip and presstrip groups to survey and build regional linkage products." According to Mr. Tran Thanh Nghi's analysis, localities should have common actions and plans to utilize the internal strength and advantages of each locality, creating support to promote common goals in tourism development. This support can be building policies, removing obstacles in mechanisms between parties, such as issues about flight routes, subsidies for common tourism stimulus policies. Specifically, the flight route connecting Can Tho - Hai Phong is stable but needs more seats, or good flight times so that tourists have more options.
Meanwhile, Mr. Tran Thanh Thai, Director of Mekong Smile Tourism Trading Joint Stock Company, shared: “In the past time, we have had the opportunity to accompany Can Tho tourism industry in many activities to promote, advertise and link tourism with localities. The activities bring many opportunities for businesses not only in terms of market connection but also to discuss how to link products and services towards the goal of promoting tourism between the parties”. Accordingly, when businesses meet, there will be difficulties resolved, at the same time there will be proposals on policies and mechanisms: how to build an effective product survey trip, promotion and advertising programs aimed at key markets... Specifically, local tourism businesses can build incentive incentive programs with subsidies for co-signing units; or preferential policies on destinations, pick-up and drop-off services, and accommodation for passengers with flight tickets connecting localities that have signed tourism cooperation agreements.
In fact, tourism development linkage not only helps expand the market but also supports localities in developing tourism through policies and mechanisms to support localities participating in signing cooperation agreements. Especially in the work of promoting and advertising tourism, or building new product lines, creating competitiveness in the market.
