EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell said these atrocities were part of an ethnic cleansing campaign carried out by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), with the aim of destroying the Masalit community in West Darfur.

Therefore, Mr. Borrell affirmed that the international community cannot turn a blind eye to the situation in Darfur and needs to prevent the risk of genocide in the region.

According to Mr. Borrell, more than 1,000 members of the Masalit community were killed in Ardamta, West Darfur, in just over two days after attacks by RSF and allied militias.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) said on November 9 that about 700 people were killed in West Darfur after clashes between the Sudanese army and RSF in El Geneina on November 4 and 5.

Between April and June, the RSF and allied Arab militias carried out attacks on the Masalit community, which makes up the majority in El Geneina, amid an outbreak of war with the Sudanese army.
