In an interview with India Today, the Russian leader said that the proposals regarding the solution to the Ukraine issue put forward by US special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner were built on the agreements reached during the Russia-US meeting at the Alaska summit.
Mr. Putin said the US wanted to divide the 28-point peace plan drafted by the US into four separate packages to discuss each part, although in essence "they are still the same old points."

Mr Putin described the meeting with Witkoff and Kushner at the Kremlin as “very useful”. The meeting lasted five hours, as each item needed to be considered in detail.
He said the proposal the two special envoys presented was “entirely based on what was agreed upon” during his meeting with US President Donald Trump in Anchorage, Alaska, when the two sides discussed the Ukraine issue.
Mr Putin said US President Donald Trump was “sincerely looking for a consensus solution”, although the process was “not easy”. Discussions still encountered points where consensus could not be reached: “There were times when we said: ‘Okay, we can discuss’, but in the end we did not reach a consensus”.
He also confirmed that the 28-point peace plan remains the working platform, and the US side proposed dividing the document into four parts for discussion.
According to Mr. Putin, Russia proposed that Ukraine withdraw its troops from Donbass to avoid military confrontation, but Ukraine “chose to continue hostilities.” He reminded that these regions “held referendums and voted for independence.”
Mr. Putin affirmed that Russia will “liberate Donbass and Novorossiya by force or otherwise,” saying that the issue ultimately comes down to two possibilities: “Either we liberate these territories, or the Ukrainian army leaves there and stops fighting.”
He stressed that European countries need to be part of the solution, instead of “obstructing the process”.
