Vietnam Futsal to participate in the 2025 Southeast Asian U19 and U16 tournament

VHO - The Southeast Asian Football Federation (AFF) has just conducted the draw ceremony to divide the groups and schedule the matches for the 2025 Southeast Asian U19 Futsal Championship and the 2025 Southeast Asian U16 Futsal Championship in Thailand this afternoon, October 28.

These are the first two playgrounds organized exclusively for youth Futsal teams in the region and Vietnam Futsal also participated.

Young Vietnamese players will participate in two regional competitions in December.

According to the draw results, at the 2025 Southeast Asian U19 Futsal Championship, the Vietnam U19 Futsal team is in Group A with Thailand and Brunei.

Group B includes Indonesia, Myanmar, Malaysia and Cambodia. The tournament will take place from December 23 to 29, 2025 at Nonthaburi Provincial Gymnasium (Thailand).

The teams compete in a round robin to score points in the group, selecting the top two teams in each group to enter the semi-finals to compete for a place in the final.

In the 2025 Southeast Asian U16 Futsal Championship, five participating teams include Thailand (host), Indonesia, Vietnam, Myanmar and Brunei.

The teams will compete in a round-robin format to determine the two best teams to advance to the final, while the third and fourth-placed teams will play for third place.

Two groups at the U19 tournament

The tournament will be held at the same venue as the 2025 Southeast Asian U19 Futsal Championship, in Nonthaburi (Thailand).

This is the first time AFF has organized Futsal tournaments at the U16 and U19 age groups, marking an important turning point for youth futsal in the region. This event opens up great opportunities for young players, in the context that Southeast Asia currently has no official playground specifically for youth futsal.

Previously, the only tournament at the youth level was the AFC U20 Futsal Championship organized by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), but it was suspended in 2020 due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and has not yet resumed.

However, Vietnam Youth Futsal still maintains stable activities. Every year, the Vietnam U19/20 Futsal team is regularly called up for training and international friendly matches, including two quality matches with the Russian U19 team in 2024.

Besides, the National U20 Futsal Championship organized by VFF has become an important playground, contributing to discovering and training many promising young faces for Futsal in the country.

According to plan, to prepare for the two upcoming regional tournaments, the Vietnam U19 and U16 Futsal teams are expected to gather for training from November 16 in Ho Chi Minh City.
