A small family and two pieces of a big family - FV
Ms. Huynh Kim Thi started working at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of FV Hospital in 2004. After being "overwhelmed" by an international hospital with modern facilities and a very methodical working process, Ms. Thi increasingly loved FV when she clearly felt the kindness - in her words, a " decent and humane place to work ". As a nurse, she witnessed many life-and-death moments of patients, accompanying nurses and doctors in many critical cases.
Ms. Thi has accompanied nurses and doctors in caring for many critical cases for over 20 years.
After 5 years working at FV, Ms. Thi convinced her husband to try his hand at a working environment that she thought was great. Mr. Ngoc Tri - who often took his wife to work - had heard and seen "enough" about FV through his wife, so he decided to stop his job at that time and join the FV team as a medical worker. He worked in many different departments before becoming a member of the Emergency Department. His experience at FV was exactly as he imagined from his wife's story. " It's just that for the past 15 years, because of the nature of the work and different shifts, my husband and I had to go to the hospital separately ," Ms. Thi happily shared.
In particular, Mr. Tri takes on a role that few people are willing to do: "caretaker" of the hospital mortuary. For nearly 10 years, Mr. Tri has been the last person to say goodbye to deceased patients, taking care of every detail, and maintaining the solemnity of this place with a respectful attitude. He works with rare silence and patience. Ms. Thi believes that it is he who has helped her to overcome many difficulties, and always believes that those who do good deeds will be rewarded in the future.
Mr. Tri is attached to his work at the FV Hospital Mortuary.
During 20 years of working with FV, Mr. Tri and Ms. Thi have built a family of 6 members. FV has also become their second home.
"FV did not leave me alone in the fight against cancer"
The couple's life would have been smooth sailing if no health incident had occurred.
She remembers that two years ago, when they received the diagnosis of lung cancer, both husband and wife sat silently together in the hospital where they worked... Worried about the burden of hospital fees and the fear of being "surrounded" by the concern of colleagues, they discussed going to another medical facility for treatment. " At that time, both hoped for a different answer or some miracle ," Ms. Thi recalled.
The test results were still the harsh truth. When faced with two choices: fight or give up, both chose to continue fighting the adversity together. Not good at speaking, Mr. Tri just quietly did the best he could for her. His steadfastness and calm attitude gave her strength on the arduous journey ahead.
With a calm and composed attitude, Mr. Tri is a solid support for Ms. Thi in the fight against cancer.
Upon hearing the news, colleagues at the ICU reported her situation to the Board of Directors. Doctor Vu Truong Son, who had just taken on the position of Deputy Medical Director at that time, took immediate action. " Doctor Son arranged everything, including the matter of requesting my treatment records from a neighboring hospital. The doctor convinced me to stay at FV for treatment, and to consider other matters after I recovered, " Ms. Thi could not hold back her tears as she recalled that period.
Ms. Thi confided that she seemed to have "forgotten" that she was a cancer patient when she was surrounded by familiar faces, especially the warm smile of Dr. Basma M'Barek - Head of Hy Vong Cancer Treatment Center, and the kind words of encouragement from her colleagues. She could never forget the moment when Dr. Luong Ngoc Trung - Head of the Department of Vascular & Thoracic Surgery, asked her which doctor she wanted to choose for surgery and he would try to arrange it. " A good doctor like Dr. Trung is so humble! I understand that he wants me to receive the best treatment. For me, being treated by FV doctors like my relatives, who else would I need to choose? ", Ms. Thi emotionally said.
As the couple often reminded each other in their small family, the kindness and sincerity given will one day come back with corresponding rewards. She said, it was FV that helped her "live again". This is an emotion that is difficult to fully describe: happiness, gratitude and a love mixed with pride for the place she loved and was attached to and now gave her a new life.
For Ms. Thi, FV is not only a workplace but also a home, a place that helps her overcome life and death and gives her a new life.
Cancer treatment is a long journey and patients will need a lot of motivation to overcome this terrible disease. For Ms. Thi, the feeling of victory came almost from the moment she returned to treatment at FV. " The best thing about the treatment process is that I realized: FV does not leave me alone and does not leave us behind, " Ms. Thi happily said.
Many people come to FV as a prestigious medical address, but for Mr. Tri and Ms. Thi, FV is more than that - it is home. Both expressed their pride in joining hands to build the foundation for this "decent working" environment, admiring colleagues who help others and also receive from FV what they deserve. This humanitarian spirit is a priceless legacy of FV that only members of the "FV family" can fully appreciate.
