Dong Thap recreates the scene of the river delta in the West

Dong Thap province recreated familiar images of the river delta region at the ancient village festival in Cai Be, delighting thousands of viewers.

On the evening of December 4, Dong Thap province held the opening ceremony of the 6th Dong Hoa Hiep Ancient Village Cultural - Tourism Festival in 2025, with the theme "Memories of the Ancient Village" in Cai Be commune.

This year's festival was organized by Dong Thap province on a large scale, with many new activities, bringing the spirit of connecting tradition and modernity. Visitors can experience and explore the cultural and architectural values ​​of the ancient village; there are many culinary spaces introducing typical rustic specialties of the West; and an art program recreating memories of the countryside. In addition, the reconstruction of the Cai Be floating market scene also makes many visitors excited.

Notably, the 2025 festival will include many technological applications such as "Digital Journey" with VR experience, "Village Gate Storytelling" contest, famtrip program and discussion "Developing tourism products of Dong Hoa Hiep Ancient Village - Connecting heritage, creativity, sustainability" to create more forums for exchange and suggest solutions for sustainable tourism development.

In his opening speech, Mr. Huynh Minh Tuan, Vice Chairman of Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee, said that Cai Be possesses many advantages to develop eco-tourism, cultural tourism and community tourism thanks to its diverse ecosystem, rich products, traditional craft villages, floating markets and hundreds of years old ancient houses, notably Ong Kiet ancient house which has been recognized by UNESCO.

In 2017, Dong Hoa Hiep ancient village was ranked as a national architectural and artistic relic, becoming an important highlight in the local tourism development strategy.

Through the festival, people and tourists understand more about the cultural relics of Dong Thap province.

The leaders of Dong Thap province also said that in the first 11 months of 2025, the locality achieved many positive results when the total retail sales of goods reached more than 228,000 billion VND (up 9.58%); more than 2,435 newly established enterprises; tourism welcomed over 6.3 million visitors, including more than 590,000 international visitors. These results are the driving force for the locality to continue investing and improving the quality of tourism products.

On this occasion, Dong Thap province also sent its gratitude to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism; National Tourism Administration; JICA and businesses that have accompanied in the work of preserving and exploiting heritage values. The project "Developing community tourism through heritage tourism in Dong Hoa Hiep ancient village" is assessed to have brought a new look, creating a foundation for the formation of many unique tourism products.
