According to experts, coffee prices have risen again due to the strengthening Brazilian Real, which has triggered short covering in the coffee futures market. The Brazilian Real rose to its highest level in a week and a half against the US dollar on June 4th, causing Brazilian coffee producers to reduce sales.
Experts believe that, unless there is a sudden change in supply or demand, coffee prices will continue to face downward pressure in the short term.
Regarding the domestic market, although coffee prices are showing positive signs with a slight increase, pressure from the international market remains significant as Robusta and Arabica prices continue to fall. Growers should closely monitor price developments to choose the right time to sell, while also considering transportation costs as fuel prices remain high.
In the short term, coffee prices may continue to face pressure if there are no significant changes in global supply.
Meanwhile, business circles believe the market is facing double pressure from a sharp increase in supply and global economic fluctuations in the first half of 2025. Domestically, Vietnamese coffee prices are currently higher than those of other exporting countries, causing trading activity to slow down.
In addition, shipping costs and concerns about new tariffs are also increasing the burden on businesses.
The International Coffee Organization (ICO) reported that global coffee exports reached 11.43 million bags in April, down 5.5% from 12.09 million bags in the same period last year. Cumulative exports for the first seven months of the 2024-2025 coffee year (October 2024 to April 2025) totaled 78.51 million bags, down 3.5% from 81.39 million bags in the same period of the 2023-2024 crop year.
