Over the past week, the coffee market has seen several positive developments. Specifically, the price of Robusta coffee futures for March 2025 delivery has increased sharply, reaching $538 per ton. Arabica coffee prices also rose significantly, increasing by 19.2 cents per pound. In the domestic market, coffee prices increased by 5,000 to 5,500 VND per kilogram, reflecting strong consumer demand in the lead-up to the Lunar New Year.
The price increase is occurring amidst difficulties and delays in coffee supply from Vietnam, coupled with the weakening of the US dollar. Early on January 26th, the USD Index (DXY) fell 1.72% to 107.47, creating favorable conditions for coffee prices on the international market.
Furthermore, European coffee importers have been aggressively increasing their imports in 2024 ahead of the official entry into force of the EU's Anti-Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). Although some experts predict that tensions in the coffee market will ease in 2025, coffee prices are still trending upwards in the long term due to the impact of climate change, the US dollar, and several other factors.
