Gia Lai province will build Le Thanh International Border Gate into a digital border gate, a smart border gate - one-stop. |
Le Thanh international border gate is considered an important advantage for Gia Lai province to develop into a transit center for agricultural products, wood, rubber, coffee, and pepper exported to Cambodia and through Cambodia to ASEAN countries.
In recent times, import-export turnover through Le Thanh International Border Gate has grown steadily. Specifically, the total import-export turnover through Le Thanh Border Gate in 2021 reached 118.5 million USD; in 2022 reached 140 million USD; in 2023 reached 140 million USD; in 2024 reached 202.2 million USD (up 43% over the same period); in 2025 it is estimated to reach 205 million USD (up 1.4% over the same period).
However, according to the People's Committee of Gia Lai province, border trade activities are still small in scale, not really vibrant, and not commensurate with the potential of the position and role of a trade gateway.
At the same time, import and export goods are not diverse; the number of enterprises participating in import and export through Le Thanh international border gate is limited; trading activities and exchange of goods at the border gate area have not attracted many participating units, the exchange of goods is not regular, only taking place seasonally.
Entering a new phase, with the connection of Quy Nhon port - highway - border gate, Gia Lai province can become a logistics transit center for both the Central Highlands and the South Central Coast to the Northeast region of Cambodia.
In addition, the diverse source of goods combining agricultural products from the western region of Gia Lai province with forestry and fishery products from the eastern region of the province also creates many export opportunities.
Recently, the People's Committee of Gia Lai province has issued a plan to promote border trade development and export of goods to the Cambodian market in Gia Lai province for the period 2025 - 2027, towards 2030.
According to the plan, by 2030, the trade turnover of Gia Lai province's enterprises to the Cambodian market through Le Thanh International Border Gate will reach 300 million USD (average growth in the 2025-2030 period will reach 17%). Of which, the export turnover will reach 110 million USD, the import turnover will reach 190 million USD.
Meanwhile, the trade turnover of enterprises from Vietnamese provinces and cities to the Cambodian market through Le Thanh International Border Gate is expected to reach 500 million USD (average growth in the 2025-2030 period is 16%). Of which, exports will reach 198 million USD and imports will reach 308 million USD.
The main products exported to the Cambodian market are identified as including 8 items: processed seafood; construction materials such as cement, granite, unburnt bricks; processed agricultural products; fruits; simple textiles (common clothes, work uniforms; gasoline; meat and poultry by-products; electrical appliances).
Imported goods are mainly raw materials for processing such as raw cashew nuts, rubber latex...
By 2027, Gia Lai province will attract investment in warehouse infrastructure to basically meet the needs of area and capacity for import and export goods, serving customs clearance and goods preservation of enterprises through the provision of convenient and modern logistics services.
In addition, besides putting into use approved projects, the province also focuses on attracting and calling for investment in a portfolio of investment projects in the Le Thanh International Border Gate Economic Zone.
By 2030, Gia Lai province will complete upgrading two border crossings (Fry 8 Border Control Station/Ia Chia Border Guard Station; K3 Border Control Station/Bin Phung Ia Nan Border Guard Station) into main border gates, contributing to increasing official customs clearance points outside Le Thanh International Border Gate, creating conditions for businesses to export directly to Cambodia, reducing logistics costs.
According to the plan, every year, the Department of Industry and Trade of Gia Lai province will organize a border market at Le Thanh International Border Gate Economic Zone with 60 booths.
