World oil prices
At 6:00 AM on December 10th, Brent crude oil prices rose by $1.02 (equivalent to 1.4%) to $72.14 per barrel. WTI crude oil prices increased by $1.17 (equivalent to 1.7%) to $68.37 per barrel.
On December 8th, Syrian opposition forces declared they had seized control of Damascus and ended the regime of President Bashar al-Assad. This raised concerns about further instability in the Middle East. In addition, Israel launched swift airstrikes on Syria to consolidate control of key strategic positions and neutralize any remaining military infrastructure linked to the former Syrian government, preventing it from falling into the hands of Syrian rebels.
Although Syria is not a major oil producer, it has significant geopolitical influence due to its geographical location and its ties to Russia and Iran.
