In a cozy cafe on Trinh Cong Son Street in Hanoi , after pouring her heart out with "Tình sầu" (Sad Love), Giang Son joined singer Khoi Minh and the Dragon Plus group in singing "Ở trọ" (Living in a Rented Room) to "blow out the candles" to celebrate Trinh Cong Son's birthday on the night of February 28th.

Recently, musician Giáng Son also tried her hand at being an independent singer with the album Sing My Sol, and she surprised the public with her emotional, delicate yet heartfelt voice.

But that time, Giáng Son only "dared" to sing her own songs. This time, she "bravely" sang a song by another composer in front of an audience, a composer whose music she believes everyone loves.

Giáng Son was a special guest singer at the "Remembering and Longing for People" concert by singer Khôi Minh and the Dragon Plus group, held in a cozy setting on Trịnh Công Sơn street.

The singers, all fans of Trinh Cong Son's music, gathered with their loyal fans to sing in celebration of the birthday of the talented musician whose music is a "profound and wondrous world " for people to find refuge in.

Giáng Son: Everyone loves Trịnh Công Sơn

Giáng Son sang the solo song "Tình sầu" and performed a closing song with other artists, " Ở trọ ". Before singing, she recounted that in 1999, the group Năm dòng kẻ , of which she was a member, performed a song by Trịnh Công Sơn at the Vietnam Musicians Association.

At that time, musician Thuy Kha immediately called musician Trinh Cong Son to brag about having a band that sang his songs very well.

Trịnh Công Sơn then spoke to Giáng Son on the phone, saying that he would help the band when they came to Ho Chi Minh City to perform. But he passed away before the band could even reach Saigon.

Giáng Son said that even though she only heard Trịnh Công Sơn's gentle Huế accent once over the phone, she remembered it forever. She believes that everyone loved Trịnh Công Sơn both in real life and through his music.

Regarding the reason for choosing to sing "Tình Sầu" (Sad Love), Giáng Son said that there are so many great songs by Trịnh Công Sơn, but she has a special memory associated with the song "Tình Sầu" .

The first time she remembered Trinh Cong Son's music was when she was about fifteen, listening to the song " Tình sầu mà" (Sad Love). The lyrics made a strong impression on the young girl who had never been in love before, especially the line: "Love is like a bomb, blinding the heart."

She said that after having more experiences in love, she completely agreed that when you're in love, your heart is blind.

Giáng Son sings "Tình Sầu" (Sad Love) with a heartfelt and emotional voice , occasionally breaking the mold with innovative and unique styles that many find appealing.

When singing the song " Living in a Rented Room " with the group, she "changed colors," becoming unexpectedly lively and cheerful, like the diverse nuances of Trinh Cong Son's music.

And tomorrow I will leave, though I will miss you all.

The " Remembering and Longing for Humanity" music night features Khôi Minh as the main vocalist – a journalist specializing in music. Khôi Minh has released numerous albums and music videos, as well as organized many mini-shows for audiences who appreciate his warm, deep voice.

During the "Remembering Humanity" night, Khoi Minh sang Trinh Cong Son's songs in many styles, from slow rock and blues to jazz.

Not only did Khoi Minh sing with enthusiasm and passion, but as a journalist with a deep understanding of music and Trinh Cong Son's music, he also treated the audience to many interesting insights about Trinh Cong Son's music, from the "history" of each song to profound comments on Trinh Cong Son's music.

He said that in Trinh's music, we find a safe and lasting refuge; nothing in this world is eternal, but Trinh's music will remain as long as we experience joys and sorrows and contemplate the human condition and love…

"Wherever he may be, he is still sharing the joys and sorrows of life with us, through his music..."

No matter which of Trinh Cong Son's songs you listen to, you get the feeling that he is dedicating his most beautiful verses to portraying and showing us the beauty of life and our human condition.

"When singing a Trinh Cong Son song, it's about expressing longing and praising humanity," Khoi Minh shared about the theme "Longing for Humanity" of the concert. This is a line from the song "How Many Days Are Left?": "How many days are left here / Let's just have fun / Then tomorrow we will leave / Though we miss humanity."

Khoi Minh didn't choose only familiar, famous songs by Trinh Cong Son, but intentionally introduced many lesser-known but excellent songs from Trinh Cong Son's vast musical repertoire, waiting for his fans to discover them further.

That's the vast expanse of sky, I hear it today, how many days are left...?
