BHG - It was a miracle in emergency care and treatment for a newborn with a systemic infection just 2 hours after birth by the doctors and nurses of the Pediatrics Department of the Provincial General Hospital. "My parents gave birth to me, but it was the doctors who saved my life from the hands of death", that was the emotional gratitude from the family of Nguyen Phong Phu Trong to the doctors and nurses of the Pediatrics Department.

On May 8, Trong was born by cesarean section at the 38th week of pregnancy, weighing 3 kg at Dong Van District General Hospital. However, just 2 hours after birth, he showed signs of respiratory failure and cyanosis, diagnosed as a systemic infection. Given the critical condition of the child, the doctors quickly consulted and decided to transfer him to the Provincial General Hospital for urgent treatment. After receiving him, the doctors of the Pediatrics Department implemented active resuscitation measures, provided invasive mechanical ventilation, intravenous nutrition, combined use of antibiotics, and monitored and provided special care 24/7.

Mr. Nguyen Phong Son, the baby's father, shared: During the first 3 days, the baby was always in critical condition, making the family think of the worst. The family could only update the baby's condition through reports from doctors 3-4 times a day, and the care was completely dependent on the medical team. Thanks to the dedication and devotion of the medical team, the baby gradually overcame the critical condition. Because the baby's mother was still hospitalized in Dong Van, the family had to run around asking for milk for the baby, and the doctors also supported the request for milk to ensure the baby's nutrition. After a week of intensive treatment in the neonatal intensive care unit, the baby was transferred to a regular room and on May 19 was discharged from the hospital in stable condition. Since the day of discharge, the baby has been eating and sleeping well, has a rosy complexion, and no longer has any abnormal signs. The moment the family saw the baby sleeping soundly in their arms after days of living in fear, they were truly at ease. At the time of hospitalization, the family only had the child's birth certificate, but he received full emergency care and treatment according to the protocol, and all procedures were quickly supported. Not only were the doctors professional, they were also kind and compassionate, taking care of the patient as if he were their own child.

Dr. Le Thi Toan, Deputy Head of the Pediatrics Department, Provincial General Hospital said: When we received information about the transfer of patient Phu Trong from Dong Van Hospital, we quickly prepared human resources and equipment to be ready for emergency treatment. This is a special case, very rare and has a high risk of death if not treated promptly. After explaining the child's condition, the family cooperated well, had absolute trust in the doctors, and did not put pressure on them, which is very valuable and also the motivation for us to successfully treat the child. Through the case of Phu Trong, we recommend that pregnant women should have regular check-ups so that the mother and baby can be closely monitored, and early detection of possible risks during pregnancy to have timely intervention and treatment measures.

Moved by the dedication of those who are working day and night for the health and lives of newborns, Phu Trong's family sent a thank you letter to the doctors and nurses of the Pediatrics Department, Provincial General Hospital, sharing their gratitude and encouraging them to continue to contribute to the cause of caring for and protecting people's health.
