Students are inspired to think critically and creatively, and at the same time gain a deeper understanding of history, tradition and values. These lessons leave a lasting impression on their hearts.
Teachers and students catch the patriotic trend
“Even though the movie Red Rain has ended, I still don’t want to leave the theater. The footage left me with a surge of emotions that are hard to describe in words. Looking back at the fierce war scenes on screen, I suddenly thought that in real life, those sacrifices must have been even more intense and painful.
In exchange for today's peace , our ancestors had to pay with blood and bones, leaving behind many unfinished dreams. As a student living in peacetime, I feel deeply grateful for the sacrifices of those heroes", those were the feelings of Lo Yen Vy - a student of class 11A6, Nghe An Province Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities, after watching Red Rain.
Sharing the same sentiment, Truong Thi Thanh Tra, a classmate, also expressed gratitude to the soldiers who died to protect the Fatherland, so that today's generation can live in peace. "As a student, representing the young generation of the country, I always respect and preserve what my ancestors left behind, strive to study and practice to become a useful citizen, contributing to the development of the country," Tra said.
For class 11A6, the movie night at the cinema became a special gift at the beginning of the school year from homeroom teacher Phan Thi Hong. All the movie tickets were paid for by her own pocket, she both organized and joined the students in the "patriotic trend" atmosphere.
Sharing about this activity, Ms. Hong said: “Taking students to the cinema is one of the extracurricular activities I choose, first of all to serve the purpose of teaching literature. Moreover, ethnic boarding students often live and study in a closed environment of the school, so this is also an opportunity for them to experience reality, at the same time feel the joy of the youth trend.”
Not following purely entertaining films, Ms. Hong only chooses historical films, turning each screening into a special “lesson”. Before Red Rain, the teachers and students of class 11A6 watched the film Tunnels together, leaving many deep emotions and unforgettable memories.
The homeroom teacher of class 11A6 confided: “I do not put too much emphasis on cramming historical knowledge, but I hope that from the films, students can make connections to literary works with similar topics they have studied. From there, they will have a more realistic perspective on history and war and draw their own feelings and thoughts.”
For Ms. Hong, teaching is not only limited to textbooks. Her point of view is to harmoniously combine lessons in class with real-life experiences. Therefore, in addition to literature classes, she also takes her students to visit SOS Children's Village, 19/3 Orphanage and Disabled Children Center, or participate in cleaning up martyrs' cemeteries. These activities are "lessons without curriculum" but are rich in human values, awakening in students compassion, a sense of responsibility and the ability to connect deeply with life.

Absorbing history and traditional values
Recently, Nghe An - Soviet Nghe Tinh Museum in collaboration with Doi Cung Secondary School (Thanh Vinh Ward, Nghe An) organized the "I love history" Club program with the theme "Soviet echoes", on the occasion of the 95th anniversary of the Nghe Tinh Soviet movement (September 12, 1930 - September 12, 2025).
Through a series of activities such as visiting exhibitions, playing games, and engaging in lively exchanges, students not only gain access to historical knowledge but also gain a deeper understanding of the Nghe Tinh Soviet revolutionary movement - the birthplace of the first generation of communist soldiers from their homeland Nghe An, people who devoted their youth to the cause of national liberation.
In particular, this is the first time the children have experienced visiting the new Soviet Nghe Tinh Exhibition House, which preserves hundreds of rare images, documents and artifacts vividly recreated using 3D graphics technology. The images of the past seem to awaken right before their eyes, leaving in them a sense of pride and deep emotions about the indomitable fighting tradition of their ancestors.
Many schools in Nghe An have chosen museums, historical sites or memorial houses of national heroes as destinations for students to visit and experience. For Nguyen Thi Uyen Nhi - a student of class 10A1, Thai Lao High School (Hung Nguyen, Nghe An), each trip is a journey full of pride.
“As a child of Hung Nguyen - the land that 'stood up first' in the 1930-1931 revolutionary movement, I feel extremely honored. The times the school organized incense offering and visits to the Thai Lao Martyrs' Monument, Nghe Tinh Soviet Square or the General Secretary Le Hong Phong Memorial Site... helped me better understand the history of my homeland and the arduous struggle that my ancestors went through,” Uyen Nhi shared.
According to Ms. Luu Thi Thanh Tra - Vice Principal of Thai Lao High School, over the years, the school has always focused on integrating education on history, traditions, ethical values and life ideals into many subjects such as Literature, History, and Economic and Legal Education.
Along with that are practical experience activities: discussions, visits to historical sites, visits to families with meritorious services, etc. These activities not only help students foster love for their homeland and national pride, but also contribute to shaping their personality and sense of responsibility so that they can become useful citizens, ready to contribute to building the country.
Nghe An Education Department has implemented a local education program from grade 1 to grade 12, with a gradual increase in level appropriate to the students' level and ability to receive culture. The program's content focuses on awakening potential, associated with local economic, historical and geographical characteristics; especially emphasizing the precious traditional revolutionary values and unique culture of Nghe people.
Schools are also proactive, creative, and flexible in their implementation, coordinating with museums and historical and cultural relic sites so that students can directly experience and thereby more deeply absorb traditional values.
