Reporter: As one of the leading singers in Vietnamese music, does this title create pressure for you in your career journey?

- Singer Ha Tran: I don't feel any pressure at all. This title is a recognition from the public. I never confine myself within any title. Currently, I'm still doing things that I find meaningful, bringing joy to myself and my fan community. It's still singing and living true to my nature and personality.

If you happened to hear someone say, "Ha Tran's time is over," how would you feel?

- Even with an interview question like that, I find it normal. An artist's era is the era of the values they create. It's not about being before or after, nor does it depend on frequency of appearance or numbers. The public often ranks contemporary artists based on statistics. But an artist is not a commercial product, and audience tastes change with each generation. Contemporary artists are those who can lead the public, not just create products that appeal to the masses.

The geographical distance has clearly had a significant impact on your reputation and standing in the Vietnamese music market. Do you ever regret having gone so far away?

- I have never regretted any of my decisions, whether it was going away or returning. Because I understand how those choices impact my personal life. What I have received, what I have achieved, and what I continue to give are all part of my own sacred journey. What others see or judge is simply a reflection of their own mindset.

Hà Trần's musical style is so distinctive that it appeals only to audiences who share her passion. However, there have been times when her brand has been shaken by audiences discovering she sings bolero. What was the reason behind that choice, Ms. Trần?

- It's a leisurely stroll, with dishes that (supposedly) represent Vietnamese taste. Singing one or two bolero songs is just like singing a few songs in the style of traditional Vietnamese folk music, or revolutionary songs.

Audiences adore her for her enchanting appearance and voice. However, some also say she is "so cunning that she turns her weaknesses into strengths." Which assessment do you think is more accurate for you?

- None of that is true. I'm still evolving, and if you see a different "type of Ha" every day, just consider it normal.

While you're away, do you follow the development of Vietnamese music? And which singers do you admire?

- I spend a lot of time observing indie artists (independent artists who write, produce, and release their own music). I feel more connected to them than to mainstream artists. I like Marzuz (of course), but not because he's my nephew, but because Marzuz has a distinctive musical language and style. Besides that, I like Chillies, Den Vau, Hoang Thuy Linh, Tung, Thinh Suy, SuBoi, Minh Dinh, Hacrayon, ChiCha22, and especially Thang. I like Thang both in the band "Ngot" and outside of the band. It doesn't matter what genre or fame you have; I just like artists who have a unique mindset and know how to create their own style.

Many younger viewers may not know you for various reasons. Does this affect your feelings?

- That's normal. You can't know everyone and everything. Instead, you should only seek out those who resonate with your soul.

Are fans still waiting for your new music or live shows?

- I'm the most prolific and consistent artist among my generation. Since last year, I've released a vinyl record, an album, several singles, and every month or two, I hold mini-liveshows in various locations.

Vietnamese music is currently heavily influenced by game shows. Having achieved great success in the game show "Masked Singer," will you continue on this path?

- After "The Masked Singer," I was incredibly busy with shows. For me, it was a huge success (commercially). But, all our decisions need to be made at the right time. When I participated in "The Masked Singer," I thought it was the right time. But right now, I don't feel suited for any other game show, so I'll pass. Moreover, as I said, I prefer the leisurely pace of my current life.

How is your life now?

- My private life has always been discreet and low-key. That keeps me in balance as an artist.

Women often experience changes as they enter middle age. Have you noticed any changes in yourself?

- I really enjoy my approach of "slowing down to listen" over the past five years, during and after the pandemic. This has been a pivotal period for me personally, with many lessons learned about not being dependent on the changing world . Now, I live more for myself, and that's wonderful. The most wonderful thing is that you allow yourself, rather than being dependent on anyone else, to live a certain way.

How would you define your concept of a fulfilling and happy life?

- As it is now, and even more so in the years to come, the trend I foresee is to give, to return what life has given me. Like a strong, mature tree that provides shade.

If she could change things, what would she change? "If this question had come to me 5-10 years ago, I probably would have said ABCD. But at this point, I'm not trying to influence or control anything. I'm just living true to myself, and that will inspire and impact the community of people on the same wavelength," Ha Tran shared.
