On the afternoon of September 10th, Vu Thi Trang played her opening match in the main draw of the women's singles at the Super 100 - Vietnam Open 2025. Prior to this, the former number one female tennis player in Vietnam had successively defeated Aashi Rawat (born 2003, ranked 136th) and Liang Ka Wing (born 2005, ranked 162nd) in three sets in the qualifying rounds.

Her opponent is Indian player Ashmita Chaliha (1999, ranked 211th), cousin of male player Orijit Chaliha (2000) - who eliminated Tien Minh in the men's singles qualifying round in a dramatic 3-set match (22-20, 18-21, 21-11) on September 9th.

In this match, Orijit was also present to support and advise her cousin in her match against Tien Minh's wife.

In the first set, Vu Thi Trang played evenly in the first half but gradually allowed Ashmita to pull ahead.

The Indian player built a large lead, 13-11, 19-13, before reaching 21-15.

In the second set, the Vietnamese player showed more determination, creating an exciting back-and-forth battle for points. Trang even reached match point before her opponent.

However, Ashmita brilliantly saved two consecutive points, leveling the score at 20-20 before staging a comeback to win 22-20, thus securing her place in the second round, where she will face the second seed Lalinrat Chaiwan (Thailand).

After the match, Orijit Chaliha shared that he has considered Tien Minh his idol since childhood, and that facing him and winning was a particularly honorable experience. The 2005-born player also expressed that he knew Vu Thi Trang was Tien Minh's wife and that his cousin Ashmita also defeated her at this year's tournament, which was an interesting coincidence.
In the first round of the men's singles, Orijit lost to Chinese player Wang Zijun 2-1 after three tense sets (21-19, 8-21, 17-21).
