Two former Japan Airlines executives are about to join Bamboo Airways

Former Chairman of the Board of Directors Masaru Onishi and Hideki Oshima, Director of International Relations of Japan Airlines, are expected to join Bamboo Airways.

This information was just announced by Bamboo Airways Chairman Nguyen Ngoc Trong in the context of the airline's strong restructuring after FLC divested its capital. The airline aims to join an aviation alliance and considers cooperation and joint venture options with reputable international airlines to increase its competitiveness.

According to Mr. Trong, Bamboo Airways may have drastic changes in both senior positions in the Board of Directors and the Executive Board. In the immediate future, Mr. Hideki Oshima, former Director of International Relations and Airline Alliances of Japan Airlines, will join the Board of Directors of Bamboo Airways and the Executive Board. Mr. Masaru Onishi, former President of Japan Airlines, will serve as Senior Advisor to the Board of Directors of Bamboo Airways.

Japan Airlines is the second largest airline in Japan. At the end of 2019, Japan Airlines also proposed extensive cooperation with Bamboo Airways during a meeting between the two airlines' leaders in Hanoi .

Currently, Bamboo Airways' Board of Directors has 5 members, including Chairman Nguyen Ngoc Trong, two vice chairmen Doan Huu Doan and Le Ba Nguyen, and two members Le Thai Sam and Nguyen Manh Quan.

At last week’s meeting, Bamboo Airways’ shareholders’ meeting agreed to issue 1.15 billion new shares, thereby increasing its charter capital to VND30,000 billion. Currently, the airline’s charter capital is VND18,500 billion. The new capital will help Bamboo Airways reduce its old debt, continue to accelerate and strengthen its plan to increase the number of aircraft fleets, expand its international flight network, and improve service quality.

Meanwhile, FLC also transferred all 21.7% of its shares in this airline. Mr. Trong commented that FLC's divestment helps Bamboo Airways' structure to be focused and its operations become independent.

"Many of the airline's key plans that were stalled by the crisis will be restarted and vigorously promoted," said the Chairman of Bamboo Airways. He affirmed that Bamboo Airways is seriously investing in a new development phase to move quickly and become a branded airline in Asia.

The airline still has the ambition to increase its fleet size to 100 aircraft in the period 2028 - 2030. Regarding the development model, to complement core transportation activities, Bamboo Airways is building surrounding ecosystems such as providing ground services, technical infrastructure, providing meals, and transporting goods.
