Hai Phong strives to have no more poor households according to national poverty standards by 2024, period 2022 - 2025

(Haiphong.gov.vn) - On the morning of March 8th, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang chaired the 5th online meeting of the Central Steering Committee for National Target Programs giai đoạn 2021-2025 with localities.

Attending the meeting via video link from Hai Phong were Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Nguyen Duc Tho, along with representatives from relevant departments, agencies, and localities.

Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Nguyen Duc Tho chaired the conference at the Hai Phong location.

Implementing national target programs, to date, approximately 78% of communes nationwide have met the standards for New Rural Development, with an average of 17.1 criteria per commune; 280 district-level units in 58 provinces and centrally-administered cities have been recognized by the Prime Minister as having completed the task of achieving New Rural Development standards (accounting for approximately 43.6% of the total number of district-level units nationwide). The poverty rate according to the multidimensional poverty standard in 2023 was 2.93%, a decrease of 1.1%; of which: the poverty rate in poor districts was approximately 33% (a decrease of 5.62%); the poverty rate among ethnic minorities was approximately 17.82% (a decrease of 3.2%), meeting the targets set by the National Assembly and the Government.

In Hai Phong, the National Target Program for Sustainable Poverty Reduction has always received timely attention and guidance from the city. In addition to effectively implementing general poverty reduction policies as stipulated by the central government, the city also allocates resources to implement several specific city-level policies to support poor households, near-poor households, and newly-escaped-from-poverty households. This creates conditions for poor and near-poor households to increase their income, access basic social services (education, health, housing, information, etc.), and achieve sustainable poverty alleviation. As a result, the city's poverty rate has steadily decreased over the years. Regarding the results of achieving the sustainable poverty reduction target, in 2023, the poverty rate in the city was 0.32% (a decrease of 0.46% compared to 2022, reaching 115% of the set plan). The goal is to eliminate all poor households according to the national poverty standard by 2024, for the period 2022-2025.

Concluding the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang acknowledged and highly appreciated the results achieved in implementing the national target programs by ministries, sectors, and localities. At the same time, he pointed out the shortcomings and limitations of some localities that have implemented the programs slowly and not decisively enough. The Deputy Prime Minister requested that in the coming time, relevant ministries and sectors continue to review and improve mechanisms and policies; localities should proactively implement the programs, assign specific tasks to individuals in charge, promptly identify shortcomings and inadequacies; and actively exchange information, learn from each other, and share experiences in implementing national target programs .
