Hai Phong promotes connection and expands investment cooperation with Belgian partners

Hai Phong wishes to continue expanding cooperation with Belgian partners in the fields of seaports - logistics, green industry, supporting industry, high technology, energy conversion, circular economy, smart cities, education and training.

From December 3 to December 5, Mr. Le Tien Chau, Secretary of the Hai Phong City Party Committee, and the Hai Phong City delegation visited and worked in the Kingdom of Belgium - an important economic partner of the EU in Hai Phong.

Accordingly, at the Hai Phong - Antwerp Investment Promotion Conference 2025 with the theme "Discovering the new generation investment destination in Hai Phong" held in Antwerp city, Kingdom of Belgium, Mr. Le Tien Chau affirmed the high unity in the political system of Hai Phong city with the motto "The success of enterprises is the success of the government, the work of enterprises is also the work of the city".

Hai Phong is the only locality in Vietnam to maintain a double-digit growth streak for 11 consecutive years. The city's economic scale ranks third in the country, attracting over 50 billion USD in foreign direct investment (FDI) with about 1,800 projects from 44 countries and territories. In 2024, Hai Phong will continue to affirm its leading position in the investment and business environment through competitiveness and administrative reform indexes (PCI, PAPI, SIPAS...).

At the Conference, Mr. Bruno Jaspaert, General Director of DEEP C Industrial Park Complex, Chairman of EuroCham made a strong commitment to the city leaders and investors: "If DEEP C takes over this new area, I guarantee that the project will be filled in less than 7 years". At the same time, he emphasized that Hai Phong is an ideal location to realize big ambitions for high-tech industry.

Within the framework of the investment promotion conference, a Memorandum of Understanding was awarded between the leaders of Hai Phong City People's Committee and representatives of DEEP C Industrial Park Complex.

On this occasion, the Hai Phong City delegation had a working session with the leaders of Antwerp province. Mr. Luk Lemmens, Deputy Governor of Antwerp province, shared management experience in key areas such as spatial planning, water resource management, logistics, vocational training and sustainable energy transition.

Antwerp is a long-standing European seaport hub, while Hai Phong is the development engine of Northern Vietnam, ready to become Asia's next-generation investment hub, said the Deputy Governor of Antwerp province.

Expressing his impression of Antwerp's scale and management level, Mr. Le Tien Chau said that the two localities have many similarities in terms of seaport position and multimodal transport infrastructure. At the same time, he proposed three main pillars of cooperation between the two sides in the coming time, including: Improving the management level of seaport systems; Promoting digital transformation, green transformation and renewable energy; Cooperation in education and training, especially developing high-quality human resources through advanced vocational training facilities in Belgium.

Next, the Hai Phong City Party Secretary and the delegation worked with Baron Luc Bertrand, Chairman of ACKERMANS & VAN HAAREN Group (AVH), and attended a solemn reception with the Group's senior leaders.

The Party Secretary and the delegation also visited the port of Antwerp, part of the Antwerp-Bruges port system, one of the largest ports in Europe, playing a central role in the global supply chain.

With a cargo throughput of nearly 300 million tons per year, the port owns a network of yards, railways, warehouses and advanced logistics services, making a major contribution to Europe's international trade.

Based on strengths and similarities, Hai Phong is willing to cooperate with Antwerp-Bruges port in developing green port models, reducing carbon emissions, converting energy, using green hydrogen, building clean fuel reception infrastructure and applying advanced environmental treatment technologies.

Previously (December 3), the Secretary of the Hai Phong City Party Committee visited and worked with the Vietnamese Embassy in the Kingdom of Belgium and the Vietnamese Delegation to the European Union (EU).

With great potential and orientation towards green and sustainable development, Hai Phong wishes to continue expanding cooperation with Belgian partners in the fields of: seaports - logistics, green industry, supporting industry, high technology, energy conversion, circular economy, smart cities and education and training. These are all areas in which Belgium and the EU have strengths and are suitable for the city's development needs.

Expressing his wish that the Vietnamese Embassy would continue to be a bridge to help promote the image, culture, people, potential and investment opportunities of Hai Phong to Belgian partners, Mr. Le Tien Chau asked the Vietnamese Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium and Luxembourg and the Vietnamese Delegation to the EU Nguyen Van Thao to pay attention and accompany the city so that the two sides can exchange experiences and seek practical cooperation directions. Support Hai Phong in finding suitable models of seaport management, logistics and green industry.

Appreciating the development potential and efforts to expand trade relations with Belgium, Ambassador Nguyen Van Thao pledged to support Hai Phong in participating in investment, trade, education and training promotion activities organized or coordinated by the Embassy, ​​strengthening the connection between the Vietnamese intellectual and business community in Belgium and the EU with Hai Phong.
