Before the Covid-19 pandemic, Hai Chau District - the central district of Da Nang City was one of the pioneering localities in mobilizing businesses to provide toilets for tourists, in the context of a lack of public toilets.

Since the beginning of April, the People's Committee of Hai Chau District has assigned the District Youth Union to preside over and coordinate with the Ward Youth Union and the People's Committees of 13 wards in the central district to survey and mobilize restaurants, eateries, cafes, hotels, etc. with toilets that meet all conditions to participate in the program.

Business establishments in the center of Da Nang City put up the Free Restroom logo on their facades and in front of the restrooms so that visitors can identify and use the public restrooms.

Mr. Tran Kiem Khai, Military Commander of Hoa Thuan Dong Ward, Hai Chau District, said that in just a few days of coordinating with units of the ward and district to deploy, in Hoa Thuan Dong Ward, 10 establishments immediately agreed to sign a commitment and stick decals with the logo "Comfort as home - Free Restroom - Free Restroom" in front of the establishment and in front of the restroom, for visitors to recognize and use.

"For the few business owners who are still afraid of the inconvenience and do not fully understand the value of the model, the coordinating units continue to promote and mobilize, but do not force them, so that the parties are truly "comfortable" when participating, then the model's effectiveness will be sustainable and long-term" - said Mr. Tran Kiem Khai.

The Military Command of Hoa Thuan Dong Ward coordinated with the Youth Union to propagate and mobilize a coffee business to participate in the Comfort as home program.

According to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phong, Secretary of Hai Chau District Youth Union, after half a month of implementation, 215/500 establishments have immediately agreed to participate in the program, the remaining units are waiting for the opinions of the establishment owners (not in Da Nang) to respond.

"To ensure that public restrooms of participating businesses serve tourists in a truly "homelike" way, the District Youth Union coordinated with the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Hai Chau District People's Committee to survey and select restrooms that meet the required facilities and are convenient to participate in the program," said Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phong.
