GD&TĐ – Outperforming thousands of other candidates, Chu Thị Bảo Linh excelled and became the top-scoring student in the English Language Teaching major at Vinh University.

In the 2024 high school graduation exam, Chu Thi Bao Linh, a former student of Nghe An Provincial Boarding High School for Ethnic Minorities, achieved a score of 28.4 points, becoming the top scorer in the D15 group (Literature 9, English 9.4; Geography 10 points).

Talking to Linh, she was quite reserved. When asked about her secret to excelling in English, Linh shared that learning a foreign language must first stem from a passion for that language. She herself has loved English since she was a child.

Apparently, my journey with this second language began when I read books and listened to songs in English online. From then on, I became fascinated with the language without even realizing it.

Upon entering junior high school, having the opportunity to learn and engage deeply with English in regular classes, her love for the language grew, leading to many excellent academic achievements. In particular, Linh won second prize in the provincial English competition for gifted students in 9th grade.

When asked about her English learning journey, Linh said: “My hometown isn't an ideal place for me to develop my passion for learning English, but I believe this language will be a good opportunity for me to change my future.”

That's why I'm so dedicated to this subject, despite the many difficulties I've faced, especially since my environment and circumstances haven't allowed me to interact with native speakers, which has become the main barrier to my speaking ability.

However, I am truly grateful to my teachers and family for creating an environment where I and my friends can communicate regularly in English, which has helped improve many of my skills.”

In high school, Linh became the vice president of the school's English club. To proactively learn English, in addition to actively listening to teachers' lectures in class, Linh researched exam questions online beforehand and practiced her English skills on her own.

In addition, the female students also improve their vocabulary using the spaced repetition method.

"After learning new words, she reviews them after a 30-minute break, repeating this several times to form a habit and remember the vocabulary more deeply," Linh said.

Recounting her story, Linh shared that she greatly admires a famous MC from her hometown, who is a source of inspiration for her efforts, a motivation that helps her determinedly achieve high results in the university entrance exam, and also an opportunity to help her achieve her dream.

"It was my love for the English language that fueled my dream of becoming an English teacher," Chu Bao Linh shared.

Be independent and confident in pursuing your dreams.

Born and raised in Tuong Duong district, Nghe An province, Bao Linh is the eldest daughter in a family of farmers. She has two younger siblings who are still in school, and she always strives to study hard to set a good example for them.

One of the environments that inspired me to love and choose the field of Education was my time studying at the Nghe An Provincial Boarding High School for Ethnic Minorities.

Chu Thi Bao Linh said: “When I entered 10th grade, I left my family and moved to Vinh City to study. At first, I couldn't help but feel lost and sometimes cried because I missed home. But looking back, it was a good opportunity for me to develop independence and no longer rely on my parents so much. Besides that, the teachers at school always encouraged, supported, and listened to our difficulties like our own parents.”

Upon learning that she was the top-scoring student in the English Language Teaching program, Linh was overjoyed and surprised. The top-scoring student shared: “I didn’t expect to be one of the top-scoring candidates for this program. This is a stepping stone for me to strive and work hard to become a teacher.”

Stepping into a new environment, the female student set a goal to win the "Excellent Student" title, and also joined the Folk Song Club, which specializes in singing, a hobby of hers.

As Linh's mentor and teacher throughout her three years of high school, Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuyet Trinh – a teacher at the Nghe An Provincial Boarding High School for Ethnic Minorities – shared: “From junior high school, Bao Linh won second prize in the provincial English competition for gifted students. She has a talent for singing and frequently hosts programs for the English Club. Achieving an IELTS score of 6.5 in 12th grade is a tremendous effort, especially considering she is a student from the mountainous district of Tuong Duong studying in Vinh City. Linh's second prize in the provincial English competition and her participation in Group A alongside Phan Boi Chau High School is also a remarkable achievement.”
