Ms. Le Thi My Chau, 56 years old, chairwoman of the Board of Directors of My Chau Pharmacy Group Investment and Development Company Limited, has been temporarily detained by the Economic Police Department (PC03) of the Ho Chi Minh City Police on charges of "giving bribes".

Ms. Chau is accused of colluding with singer Quoc Khang to "fix" a case for a suspect for 9 billion VND. According to the investigating agency, Khang knew that Ms. Chau wanted to "fix" a case for someone who had just been arrested by PC03, so he approached her and demanded 9 billion VND in exchange for bailing the suspect out a week later.

How is the owner of My Chau Pharmacy doing in her business?

According to data on the business registration system, My Chau Pharmacy Group Investment and Development Co., Ltd. was converted from My Chau Pharmacy Group Investment and Development Joint Stock Company.

This company was established in May 2020, with its headquarters at 389 Hai Ba Trung Street, District 3, Ho Chi Minh City. Despite several changes in the shareholder structure, Ms. My Chau remains the most influential person in this company.

In the most recent update in mid-May 2024, Ms. Nguyen Thu Hoa was the director and legal representative of My Chau Pharmacy Group.

Regarding the shareholder structure, Ms. Le Thi My Chau contributed VND 28.5 billion, equivalent to 95% of the capital, and shareholder Nguyen Thu Hoa contributed VND 1.5 billion, equivalent to 5% of the capital.

Besides My Chau Pharmacy Group, Ms. Le Thi My Chau also owns other businesses.

In that context, Ms. Chau previously held the position of chairperson at Binh Thuan Power Energy Joint Stock Company.

This energy company was established in January 2019, headquartered in La Gi town, Binh Thuan province. However, according to updates in the business registration system, this company has been dissolved.

Ms. My Chau also previously led My Chau International Real Estate Joint Stock Company - a business established in 2018 with a charter capital of 200 billion VND.

This real estate company is registered at 389 Hai Ba Trung Street, District 3, the same location as the head office of My Chau Pharmacy Group Investment and Development Co., Ltd.

However, the latest update also shows that My Chau International Real Estate Joint Stock Company is no longer conducting business at its registered address.

What is the situation at My Chau Pharmacy after the owner was arrested?

My Chau Pharmacy is one of the well-known names in Ho Chi Minh City.

Under the leadership of Ms. My Chau, from a small pharmacy on Hai Ba Trung Street, My Chau Pharmacy has expanded to many locations, but is primarily concentrated in the inner city of Ho Chi Minh City.

In 2016, Saigon Asset Management Corporation (SAM) signed an investment cooperation agreement with My Chau pharmacy chain.

Accordingly, SAM invested an amount equivalent to 15% of the shares to become a strategic partner and participate in the Board of Directors of My Chau. This strategic cooperation is in line with the direction of expanding the scale of the My Chau pharmacy system.

However, the press later widely reported that a representative of the SAM fund had spoken out about the complete loss of their investment in My Chau Pharmacy.

By November 7th – a few days after the owner of My Chau Pharmacy was arrested – Tuoi Tre Online observed that My Chau Pharmacy was closed and locked in the "pharmacy market" area on Hai Ba Trung Street, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City.

A local food vendor next to My Chau Pharmacy said: "Yesterday they were advertising discounts up to 60%, but nobody came in. I only saw one or two staff members. Today they're closed, probably because they have family matters to attend to!"

Besides its main headquarters in District 1, My Chau Pharmacy also has a chain of pharmacies located in many areas, mainly concentrated in Ho Chi Minh City, such as District 12, District 10, Tan Binh District, etc.

Similarly, at My Chau Pharmacy 16 (3 Tháng 2 Street, District 10), some local residents also reported that today is the first day this pharmacy is closed.

Meanwhile, the website nhathuocmychau.com is down, displaying the message "Website is under maintenance. Please check back later."
