Only high technology can be selected
At the announcement ceremony of Da Nang City planning on November 25, Mr. Trinh Thanh Lam - Business Director of Synopsys South Asia shared and gave suggestions to the city about future development.
Mr. Lam commented that if Da Nang chooses to develop conventional industries and technologies, it will no longer have land. The total income of the city's people is about 5 billion USD, and Da Nang's budget revenue in 2022 will be less than 1 billion USD. In 2023 and the following years, this budget revenue will be even lower when the Central Government and the city have preferential tax policies for businesses.
Meanwhile, a semiconductor industrial company has 8,000 employees but makes 6 billion USD per year, higher than the total income of Da Nang residents. Another company, their office looks very normal, does not need much land but they have 8,500 engineers, each year revenue is 3.6 billion USD. And these leading semiconductor companies are present in Vietnam as well as in Da Nang.
Mr. Lam affirmed: "The semiconductor industry is high technology and Da Nang, in the context of running out of land funds, must choose to develop high technology, including the semiconductor industry."
Regarding human resources, Mr. Lam said that Vietnamese engineers are currently working in the semiconductor industry, at leading companies at home and abroad. Regarding technology, engineers at Synopsys in Da Nang have mastered semiconductor chip technology, so this is not a problem.
“Da Nang leaders have a vision, universities are teaching programs that are no different from the world , with curricula taught in English. The city's goal is to have 10,000 semiconductor industry workers by 2023, so I suggest that Da Nang follow the direction of training as much as the output needs and adjusting according to demand, this is completely within reach.
In addition, Da Nang also needs to build a world-class incubation center. In addition, the city needs to invest in software infrastructure for universities, startups can share with the highest incentives; Policies to support startups in chip design, ensuring the creation of competitive products in international markets...
Enterprises accompany the city to build silicon in Da Nang
Also speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Truong Gia Binh - Chairman of the Board of Directors of FPT Corporation highly appreciated the approval of Da Nang's planning at a time when Vietnam has a great opportunity to participate in the global semiconductor industry supply chain.
Da Nang currently has a higher number of universities per population than other localities, students account for 10% of the population, and large technology enterprises are present in Da Nang. They are the enterprises leading the world's semiconductor industry.
“Two years ago, Vietnam was number 0 in the world in terms of information technology. But now we have 1 million technology engineers, half a million software engineers, and are the second largest software exporter after India. So now we have to calculate how many workers we need for the semiconductor industry.
FPT is training 17,500 students and has signed and will deploy large-scale training on technology human resources. We will meet with semiconductor industry enterprises to discuss future human resources plans. We not only supply human resources to them in Vietnam but also in other countries. We are committed to doing our best to accompany the city in the future picture of becoming Silicon Da Nang" - Mr. Binh shared.
