Sputnik reported that on September 28, Hezbollah announced that its leader Hassan Nasrallah had died on September 27.

Yesterday, Israel launched a large-scale attack on the capital Beirut. In a statement released today, September 28, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said that Mr. Nasrallah and a number of senior commanders of this force were killed in an Israeli airstrike on Hezbollah headquarters in the southern suburbs of the capital Beirut, Lebanon on the night of September 27 and the early morning of September 28.

According to the IDF, Hezbollah's headquarters is located underground, beneath buildings in a densely populated area of Dahiyeh in southern Beirut. "The attack was carried out while Hezbollah leaders were present at the headquarters and coordinating operations against Israel," the IDF said.

Mr Nasrallah, 64, led Hezbollah in wars against Israel and participated in the conflict in neighboring Syria. Israel described him as "the central decision-maker and strategic leader of Hezbollah". According to observers, Mr Nasrallah's death will be a huge loss for the armed group in the future.
