"This is the opening match of the 33rd SEA Games, we were a bit worried but then, fortunately everything went smoothly. The 3 points against Laos are very important. We need to recover and prepare well for the match against Malaysia," coach Kim Sang-sik said after the match against Laos.

"Vietnam's second goal was not offside. I have strong faith in that. That's why the referee changed his decision at the last minute," the Korean coach said about the decisive moment of the match at Rajamangala Stadium.

Despite winning 3 points, U22 Vietnam also suffered a loss when Xuan Bac got injured. Coach Kim Sang-sik said he was satisfied with the 3 points but in the next match, the players need to take advantage of opportunities to score more goals.

Besides, the captain of U22 Vietnam also praised his opponent: "Laos football is developing very well. With this progress, their future will be brighter."

In less than a month, Laos has suffered two defeats against Vietnamese football. However, the progress of the young players led by coach Ha Hyeok-jun cannot be denied. From heavy losses, the Lao national teams have now played more confidently and only lost by one or two goals to Vietnam.

In the opening match of the SEA Games, U22 Laos caused many difficulties for Vietnam with their defensive play. The team, considered the weakest in Group B, even equalized before the end of the first half, after a chaotic situation in front of Tran Trung Kien's goal. In the second half, Laos still showed resilience and only succumbed to a controversial whistle-blowing situation by the referee team.

Vietnam U22 will have more than a week to rest before entering the crucial match with Malaysia U22 on December 11. In men's football, only the first team in the 3 groups will go straight to the semi-finals. The remaining spot belongs to the second-placed team with the best record in the group stage.
