On the evening of December 3, the U22 Vietnam team defeated U22 Laos 2-1 at Rajamangala Stadium in the opening match of Group B of the men's football event of the 33rd SEA Games.
Speaking after the match, coach Kim Sang Sik said: "This is the first match at this year's SEA Games. We were a bit nervous. But then, fortunately, everything went smoothly and we won 3 important points. U22 Vietnam was not in the best condition. We also did not play according to the proposed strategy."
"After the first half, I saw the players' lack of concentration, so I reminded them to focus. In the second half, the players also played according to plan. However, today we were also unlucky not to score many goals. I regret that we only scored 2 goals," he added.
However, the Korean coach also expressed satisfaction with his players' performance.

He said: "I think today's result is the result of the players' efforts. I feel sorry about the goal in the first half. However, today we won. The players will recover and continue to try to win the match against U22 Malaysia on December 11."
Speaking about the controversial 2-1 winning goal, coach Kim Sang Sik shared: "Personally, I have not watched the slow-motion replay, but in that situation, I strongly believe that there was no offside. Therefore, I made a request and the referee approved it."
The Korean coach is also unclear about the injury of central midfielder Nguyen Xuan Bac as he is still waiting for the doctors' report. "Regarding Xuan Bac's injury, we need to re-examine him tomorrow to know the exact result," he informed.
Coach Kim Sang Sik praised Dinh Bac - the striker who scored twice in this match. He said: "First of all, I would like to congratulate Dinh Bac. He played excellently and scored today.
Besides, Quoc Viet and Thanh Nhan still need to improve. We will also improve our weaknesses and take advantage of our strengths to prepare well for the match against U22 Malaysia."
Coach Kim Sang Sik praised U22 Laos for their performance. He said: "As I shared at the press conference before the match, U22 Laos is getting stronger and stronger.
Because the two teams constantly meet, we also understand more about U22 Laos, and they also understand more about our tactics. Therefore, in today's match, U22 Vietnam had a bit of difficulty defending."
