Hoa Phat opens blast furnace No. 2, Dung Quat 2 is ready.
Both the BOF and RH furnaces were designed, manufactured, and supplied by the SMS Group (Germany). The BOF furnace has a capacity of 300 tons per batch and a daily output of 9000 tons, producing molten steel with very few impurities. Bringing the oxygen blast furnace and the RH refining furnace into operation is a crucial preparatory step for commissioning the project's second blast furnace, aiming for the completion of the entire project by September 2025.
The blast furnace volume of the Hoa Phat Dung Quat 2 project is 2500m3, double the volume of the Dung Quat 1 furnace, and consumes less energy. Hoa Phat has also invested more than current environmental standards, especially in reducing CO2 emissions and energy consumption.
The Hoa Phat Dung Quat 2 iron and steel complex utilizes technology lines from European and G7 partners such as SMS (Germany), Primetals (UK), etc. SMS Group is a long-standing partner in supplying steelmaking equipment to Hoa Phat Group. In May 2025, Hoa Phat and SMS Group signed a contract for the supply of technology and production lines for rail steel and structural steel with a capacity of 700,000 tons per year.
Since mid-June, Hoa Phat Dung Quat has put its No. 2 thick steel plate casting machine into operation, with a casting capacity of 20,000 tons per day. The casting machine boasts state-of-the- art technology designed, manufactured, and supplied by Primetals, a London-based subsidiary of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. This advanced equipment system not only increases production efficiency, optimizes product quality, and saves energy, but also minimizes operating costs.
Primetals' No. 02 thick steel plate casting machine has been put into operation.
Besides the common HRC line, the Hoa Phat Dung Quat 2 project focuses on producing high-end HRC products, serving the manufacturing, automotive, food, petrochemical, and household appliance industries, among others.
Upon completion of Hoa Phat Dung Quat 2 in September 2025, the Group's total steel production will reach 16 million tons per year, including 9 million tons of hot-rolled steel coils, meeting 100% of the demand for this product in the Vietnamese market.
