The Crown Prince emphasized that the friendship between the two countries has been nurtured for over 1,000 years, stemming from trade activities and marital ties that began in the 8th century. "Japan-Vietnam exchanges have steadily developed over the years, with cooperation becoming increasingly extensive in diverse fields such as economics , agriculture, and the environment," he said.
Crown Prince Akishino said he met with the families of Japanese veterans who remained in Vietnam after World War II and joined the Viet Minh in fighting against French colonialism.
"After Vietnam gained independence, these families faced many difficulties because veterans were advised to return to Japan. However, I am deeply moved to learn that the connection and exchange have been maintained between the families of Japanese veterans in Vietnam and their families after they returned to Japan," Crown Prince Akishino added.
The Crown Prince expressed his hope that this visit would contribute to further strengthening mutual understanding and fostering friendship between the people of the two countries.
Permanent Member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee and Chairwoman of the Vietnam-Japan Parliamentary Friendship Group, Truong Thi Mai, emphasized that the two countries have jointly cultivated a friendly and cooperative relationship based on cultural similarities, strong historical ties, and high political trust.
Ms. Truong Thi Mai expressed her confidence that the two countries will "walk hand in hand" towards the future, cooperating more closely, effectively, and sustainably.
