UK Chevening Scholarship 2026-2027 officially opens for applications in Vietnam.

Chevening Scholarships 2026-2027 will be accepting applications from 5 August 2025 to 12 noon on 7 October 2025 (GMT). This is the prestigious full scholarship program of the British government for Master's degree in the UK, regardless of the subject or institution.

A Chevening Scholarship covers full tuition fees for a one-year Masters at any UK university, along with monthly living expenses, return airfare, arrival and departure allowances, visa costs and travel costs to Chevening events in the UK.

To be eligible for a Chevening scholarship, applicants must be Vietnamese citizens, have graduated from university with good academic records, have at least 2 years of work experience (equivalent to 2,800 working hours) after graduating from university, and commit to returning to Vietnam to work for at least 2 years after completing the course.

In the 2026/2027 academic year, the UK government plans to continue to provide around 20 scholarships for Vietnam. This clearly demonstrates the UK's commitment to supporting the development of future generations of leaders in countries including Vietnam.

According to the announcement of the British Embassy, the regulations on application documents have changed a lot compared to previous years. Firstly, work experience is only counted after the date of university graduation, experience during study time will not be counted.

Second, while the essay topics remain the same, the questions have been updated and will include sub-questions. The word limit for each question will be 300 words, instead of 500 words as before.

Third, applicants must link their course choice to one of the following areas: Promoting growth and prosperity; building resilience in the face of climate change; enhancing security and stability; supporting inclusive and effective development for society.

Fourth, if applying from an ODA recipient country, the applicant must reside in that country. This country does not necessarily have to be the applicant's country of nationality.

Chevening currently offers around 1,500 scholarships worldwide each year, giving future leaders the opportunity to develop their expertise, expand their networks and experience British culture. However, it is also one of the most competitive scholarships on the planet. In 2025 alone, Chevening received 102,274 applications, equivalent to only around 1.5% of successful candidates.

Interested candidates can visit the official website www.chevening.org/vietnam for detailed instructions on the application process and prepare documents according to the new requirements.
