On several online parent groups, there was a public outcry over the news that a first-grade student from Archimedes Academy Primary School (Cau Giay District, Hanoi ) was left behind in a school bus during a field trip organized by the school.
Archimedes Academy Primary School (Hanoi) has released information regarding a first-grade student being left behind on a school bus during a field trip.
This afternoon, June 23rd, Archimedes Academy Primary School provided information regarding this incident. According to the school, on June 22nd, after students returned to school at approximately 12:10 PM following a summer camp in Bat Trang (Gia Lam District, Hanoi), the school stopped for about 10 minutes to drop off the students. The teacher negligently overlooked taking attendance upon arrival, resulting in one student sleeping on the bus being left behind.
After settling the students, at around 12:30 PM, the teachers discovered that one student was missing, so they split up to search for him and contact the driver. At 12:40 PM, the teachers received information from both the driver and the student's mother simultaneously. The driver immediately brought the student back to school and arrived at 12:45 PM.
"At this time, the students' morale is stable. After eating and resting at lunchtime, the students will continue the fun experiential program with their friends and teachers," the school's announcement stated.
The school administration also stated: "The school administration met with the student's parents to apologize; and when the child woke up, she came down to meet them in a relaxed mood. During the meeting, the parents shared that their child loves the school and her friends and wishes to continue studying there. Therefore, the family hopes the matter will end here so that the child can stabilize her mental state and focus on her studies."
On the school's side, the chairman of the board of directors convened an emergency meeting of the school's management and relevant staff to learn from the experience and review the procedures. The school's management then reported the incident to the leaders of the Cau Giay District Department of Education and Training; established a disciplinary committee for the teacher who violated regulations; and held a meeting of all student management staff and teachers to strengthen control over student transportation activities.
"On behalf of the school, the administration accepts responsibility and sincerely apologizes to all parents for this oversight," the Archimedes Academy Elementary School administration wrote in a statement.
Previously, in Hanoi and some other localities, there have been several heartbreaking incidents involving students being left behind in school buses.
